Spoilers for Season 3, Episode 7, “Solaz del Mar.” Daryl and Carol do not make it to America: during Fede’s attack, gunfire sets their boat ablaze. Their immediate escape plan is gone, but the finale does not say they will stay in Spain for good. Its final reveal is Stéphane, watching the fire from a distance.
Why does the boat catch fire?
Fede’s attack at the beach derails the group’s departure. Carol tackles him as he fires, and the gunfire ignites the boat meant to carry Daryl and Carol to America. Fede escapes in the confusion; the boat burns, leaving the group without that route out of Spain.
So the answer to “Does Daryl get home?” is no—not on this boat, and not by the end of the episode. The finale resolves the immediate question of whether the group can leave on its assembled escape plan, but leaves their eventual destination open.
What happens before the beach attack?
Daryl and Paz free the women at El Alcazar
Daryl and Paz infiltrate El Alcazar during a ceremony where women are assigned to powerful men. The ruling elite treat walkers as entertainment. Daryl releases the walkers, turning the rescue into a fight through the castle. Elena kills Guillermo, and Paz also kills him during the confrontation. Daryl gets Justina and the other women out.

Who is the man watching the fire?
He is Stéphane. The finale first reveals him as the hooded figure who finds Laurent’s Rubik’s Cube, then closes with him watching the blaze from a distance. That puts him near Daryl and Carol’s predicament, but the episode does not establish how he got there, what he intends, or whether he will help them. A reunion or assistance is possible, not confirmed.
What does the ending mean for Daryl?
The lost boat is a practical setback, but the episode also frames Daryl’s uncertainty about what comes after survival. Earlier, he tells Justina that he wants her and Roberto to have “the chance to really have something.” At the beach, he tells Carol that he has spent his life running and does not know whether he can stop. Those lines are reported in TVLine’s recap, rather than verified against an episode transcript.

- New 7" scale figure packaged in a numbered Color Tops Collector Edition Window Box. Color Tops Red Wave #6
- Figure includes multiple points of articulation and stylized display base with brand specific callout
- Comes with crossbow, knife, walker head with Spine.
- Spectacular likeness of Daryl Dixon taken from 3D scans of actor Norman Reedus.
- Sculpted in the outfit worn in Season 5 of AMC's The Walking Dead.
Norman Reedus described the season’s central question as “what is home?” In an AMC interview published October 15, 2025, the actor said Daryl’s idea of home is changing and that he is trying to find somewhere he can be grounded and content. That makes the failed escape resonate beyond the immediate logistics: the story is asking not only how Daryl might get home, but what kind of life he wants. This is an interpretation of the finale in light of Reedus’s comments, not an answer the episode explicitly supplies.
