Jasmine Crockett’s nickname for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, with Alyssa Farah Griffin saying, “It’s never OK to mock someone’s disability.” Crockett had said the phrase referred to Abbott’s use of transportation to transfer migrants—not to his disability. The disagreement centered on the gap between her stated policy target and a nickname that many could hear as a reference to his wheelchair.
What Crockett said—and when
Crockett made the remark at a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles on March 22, 2025. The Associated Press reported her saying onstage: “You all know we got Gov. Hot Wheels down there. Come on, now.” Coverage also reported that she called Abbott a “hot mess.”
On March 25, Crockett explained that she was criticizing Abbott’s migrant-transportation policy. In an explanation reported by TheWrap, she said: “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition — I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable.” That is Crockett’s account of her intended target; it does not determine how the nickname would be heard or its impact.
Why the nickname drew disability criticism
Abbott uses a wheelchair. The Associated Press reports that he was paralyzed after a tree fell on him while he was running in 1984. Against that background, “Hot Wheels” could be understood as a reference to his wheelchair, regardless of Crockett’s stated intention to criticize his policy. That implication was the focus of the co-hosts’ objection.

How The View co-hosts responded
On March 26, several days after Crockett’s dinner remarks, The View co-hosts criticized the nickname. Alyssa Farah Griffin objected to mocking a person’s disability, saying, as quoted by TheWrap, “It’s never OK to mock someone’s disability.” The exchange put two questions in tension: what Crockett said she meant, and what the wording suggested given Abbott’s disability.
The timeline matters: Crockett spoke at the March 22 dinner, gave her explanation on March 25, and the co-hosts discussed the controversy on March 26. TheWrap’s report covers that March 26 reaction. ABC’s official listing for a June 19, 2025 appearance by Crockett concerns Juneteenth and political violence; it is a separate appearance, not the controversy segment.

Not on the evidence reported here. CBS Texas reported on March 30 that Rep. Randy Weber had filed a censure resolution and that it could be considered. A filed resolution or potential House action is not the same as a final censure, and the cited report does not establish a final outcome.
