Alyssa Farah Griffin said she was shocked by Sarah Huckabee Sanders’s jab at Kamala Harris because Griffin remembered Sanders as privately kind when they worked together. Griffin made the comparison on The View on September 18, 2024, after Sanders said at a Donald Trump town hall that her children kept her humble and that Harris had nothing doing the same. Griffin’s recollection is personal, and her explanation for Sanders’s remark was her opinion—not an independently established account of Sanders’s motives.
What Sarah Huckabee Sanders said about Kamala Harris
At a Trump town hall in Flint, Michigan, on September 17, 2024, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders spoke about how her children keep her grounded. She described returning home after being cheered by a crowd and having her children remind her that she was not especially important. She then said: “My kids keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn’t have anything keeping her humble.” The Washington Examiner reported the remark the following day.
Why Alyssa Farah Griffin said she was shocked
On September 18, The View played and discussed the clip. Griffin said she had worked with Sanders and that her “jaw dropped.” She recalled Sanders as “one of the kindest, sweetest people” in private. Entertainment Weekly, republished by AOL, reported Griffin’s comments.
Griffin suggested that the Trump political environment pushed people to make extreme remarks and attack others to fit in. That was her interpretation of the contrast she perceived between the Sanders she remembered and the town-hall comment; the reports do not independently establish Sanders’s private character, intention, or reason for saying it.

How the other co-hosts responded
Other hosts challenged the idea that motherhood is what makes someone humble. Sara Haines said she had been humble before having children. Sunny Hostin noted that Harris is a stepmother and that her stepchildren call her “Momala”; Hostin argued that the remark invoked a trope about Harris’s humility. Whoopi Goldberg criticized the framing and raised questions about policies affecting children and families. These were the hosts’ reactions to Sanders’s comment, not findings about her intent. The Washington Examiner covered the panel’s response.
What the exchange does—and does not—establish
The reported sequence is straightforward: Sanders made the remark at the Flint town hall; The View discussed it the next day; Griffin said it surprised her because of her own past experience working with Sanders. The recaps establish what the participants were reported to have said, but they are not a complete official transcript. They do not verify Griffin’s private-character assessment or explain Sanders’s motives.
