Luce is the Vatican’s official Jubilee 2025 mascot, not a character with an established anime series or combat power level. The “power of God and anime” matchup jokes are internet reactions to the striking mix of Catholic imagery and pop-culture styling—not official lore about Luce defeating anyone.
Who is Luce?
Archbishop Rino Fisichella presented Luce as the official mascot of the 2025 Jubilee on 28 October 2024. Illustrator Simone Legno designed her. The Jubilee office said the character was intended to reflect pop culture popular among young people and to carry a message of hope and welcome. The official announcement identifies her as a Jubilee mascot, not as a character from an anime series.
Her design borrows visual cues that can read as anime-inspired to many viewers, but the Vatican’s own framing is that of a pilgrim. The official description presents her yellow anorak, muddy boots, missionary cross, and pilgrim’s staff as elements of that traveler identity. It associates her shining eyes with hope, spirituality, connection with the divine, peace, and fraternity.
Why do people call her an anime girl?
The label comes from the character’s pop-culture styling and the context in which she was introduced, rather than an official anime credit. At the 28 October 2024 press conference, Fisichella described Luce as a mascot for the Jubilee and Osaka, created from a desire to engage with pop culture loved by young people. He also singled out her shining eyes as a symbol of hope. The Holy See transcript records that explanation.

The Church also brought Luce into a comics and games setting: the Dicastery for Evangelization dedicated a Luce & Friends pavilion at Lucca Comics & Games in 2024. Fisichella said the event could help the Church speak to younger generations about hope. That setting makes the pop-culture connection concrete, without establishing Luce as an anime protagonist. The Holy See’s pavilion report describes the event.
What does the power-level meme mean?
The joke turns the contrast between Catholic authority and anime-style power-scaling into a fictional matchup: if a Vatican mascot represents faith and hope, meme-makers playfully imagine her as impossibly strong. Know Your Meme documents “the power of God and anime” phrasing and fan memes around the unveiling. A Catholic news report likewise described memes and fan art circulating after the announcement, at that time; neither source establishes a current measure of how widely the jokes are seen. Know Your Meme’s entry and the Archdiocese of San Antonio report document that online reaction.

In fandom, a “power level” is a playful way of ranking who would win in a fictional fight. Here, the mismatch between a pilgrim mascot and action-anime conventions is part of the humor. It is fan interpretation, not a Church statement or a canon ranking.

There is no official combat profile or established power level for Luce in the cited Jubilee and Holy See materials. They describe her role, design, and symbolism; they do not say she fights, has supernatural abilities, or defeats other characters. So claims that she “bodies” a particular opponent should be read as meme exaggeration unless they refer to a clearly identified fan-made post or image.
