No. Amazon Kids+ is a separate paid subscription. Amazon Prime members generally receive a discounted Kids+ price, but Prime does not automatically include the service. Amazon Kids—the child-profile and parental-control system—is available at no additional cost, even without Prime.
This U.S.-focused guide explains what each service includes, how much Kids+ costs, what happens after a device trial, which devices work with it, and when the subscription is worth paying for.
Amazon Kids vs. Amazon Kids+ vs. Prime

Amazon describes Amazon Kids as a free child-profile and parental-control layer. The premium content catalog is the part that requires Amazon Kids+.
What Amazon Kids includes for free
You do not need Prime or Kids+ simply to give a child a more controlled Amazon-device experience. Depending on the device, Amazon Kids can let you:

This is enough for families whose main goal is supervision and access to content they already own. It does not unlock the complete Kids+ catalog.
What Amazon Kids+ adds
Kids+ is Amazon’s paid, curated children’s-content subscription. Amazon says it is designed primarily for children from preschool through preteen years—its terms describe a target range of roughly ages 3 to 12—and includes:
- Children’s books and ebooks.
- Videos and television content.
- Games and educational apps.
- Music.
- Audible children’s books and audio content.
- Alexa Skills and other child-focused experiences.
Amazon markets the Kids+ catalog as age-appropriate and ad-free. That description applies to the Kids+ service and catalog; it should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every website, third-party app, parent-added item, or external service is ad-free. Web access, in-app purchases, and outside content remain separate controls for parents to manage.

Amazon’s Kids+ overview and support documentation both emphasize that the experience varies across devices.
How much does Amazon Kids+ cost?
For the U.S., Amazon’s published materials list Kids+ starting at:
- $7.99 per month for Prime members
- $8.99 per month for non-Prime customers
These are published starting prices, not a promise that every account will see exactly those terms. Your signup screen may show a different plan, an annual option, a promotion, taxes, or an eligibility restriction. Amazon’s terms also allow subscription prices to change, including when a customer becomes or stops being a Prime member.
Amazon’s terms describe both monthly and annual billing structures, but the current U.S. annual price should be confirmed on the live Amazon Kids+ signup page rather than copied from an older article, another country’s storefront, or a previous promotion.

Does Prime make Kids+ free?
No. Prime provides a discount, not free access.
If you already pay for Prime, the lower Kids+ rate may make the service more attractive. But subscribing to Prime solely to save on Kids+ requires a calculation: compare the cost of Prime with the actual Kids+ discount and the other Prime benefits your household would use. Prime is not a substitute for the Kids+ subscription.
Canceling Prime also does not necessarily cancel Kids+ automatically. However, Amazon’s terms say the Kids+ price may change when Prime membership ends. Check the subscription terms and the price shown in your account after any change in Prime status.
Free trials and Kids Edition device bundles
Amazon offers a U.S. Kids+ free-trial signup route, but eligibility and trial length depend on the account and the offer displayed. Do not assume every customer receives the same trial or a universal 30-day period. An eligible account may need a payment method, and the trial generally converts to a paid subscription unless it is canceled.
Amazon Kids Edition products—including eligible Fire Kids tablets and Kindle Kids devices—may include a temporary Kids+ subscription. Amazon’s device materials refer to included periods of six or 12 months, depending on the product and offer. The individual product page and checkout screen are the final authority.

Put the renewal date on your calendar as soon as you activate a bundled offer. If you cancel during a free period, Amazon’s terms indicate that access may end immediately rather than continuing through the remainder of the trial.
Which devices support Amazon Kids+?
Amazon identifies Kids experiences across:
- Fire tablets
- Kindle e-readers
- Fire TV
- Alexa and Echo devices
- Certain Android and iOS experiences
Support is not identical across these platforms. A title or feature available on a Fire tablet may not work in the same way on a Kindle, Fire TV, Echo, Android phone, or iPad. Before subscribing, check the device you actually intend to use and search for the books, shows, or apps your child wants.

Do not assume that a brand appearing in the Kids+ catalog means every title from that brand is included. Amazon does not guarantee that specific titles will remain available, and device compatibility can further limit access.

Amazon’s terms describe Kids+ as a subscription purchased through an Amazon account and used with child profiles. The available evidence does not establish a current, universal U.S. limit for child profiles, simultaneous device use, or every family-sharing arrangement. Check the live plan details before subscribing rather than relying on a limit quoted for another country, device bundle, or older offer.
How to set up Amazon Kids
- Sign in to the Amazon account on a compatible device.
- Create a child profile.
- Enter the child’s age or birth-date information.
- Review the default age filter.
- Set screen-time limits and educational goals if available.
- Configure web browsing, store access, and in-app purchase controls.
- Share only the parent-owned content you want the child to see.
- Decide whether to start or activate Kids+.
- Record the trial or included-subscription end date and the renewal terms.
You can manage many of these settings in the Parent Dashboard app or at parents.amazon.com. Amazon’s controls and menu labels can vary by device and software version.
How to cancel Amazon Kids+
From Amazon account subscriptions
- Open Your Memberships & Subscriptions.
- Select Amazon Kids+.
- Choose Cancel My Subscription.
- Follow the confirmation prompts.
From the Parent Dashboard website
- Open Parent Dashboard in a web browser.
- Select More.
- Select Amazon Kids+ Subscription.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
- Complete the confirmation steps.
Amazon’s indexed help page directs customers to the Parent Dashboard website for cancellation; the control may not appear in the iOS or Android Parent Dashboard app. If labels have changed, use Your Memberships & Subscriptions or the current subscription-management page in your Amazon account.
Amazon also says you can request a one-time email reminder three days before renewal. In Your Memberships & Subscriptions, select Amazon Kids+ and look for Remind me beside the current plan.

Is Amazon Kids+ educational?
Kids+ includes educational books, apps, games, videos, and Alexa Skills, according to Amazon. That means educational material is available; it does not prove that the subscription produces a particular learning outcome.
A more useful test is whether the child actually uses the content in a constructive way:

- Are the available books and apps appropriate for the child’s real age and reading level?
- Does the child choose books, creative activities, and learning games, or mostly passive video?
- Can you set useful time limits and educational goals?
- Does the child use the service independently, or does it require constant parental intervention?
- Would the same money buy a smaller number of better-targeted books or apps?
When Amazon Kids+ is worth it
Kids+ is more likely to justify its recurring cost when a child regularly uses a compatible device and wants several types of content—not just one video service. The subscription can be convenient for families that want books, games, apps, music, and audio in one child-oriented environment with built-in controls.
It is particularly practical when:
- The child is within Amazon’s primary preschool-to-preteen target range.
- The family uses Fire, Kindle, Echo, or another supported device.
- The child frequently explores new books, games, and audio content.
- The parent values a curated, ad-free Kids+ catalog.
- The subscription replaces several smaller children’s-content purchases.
When Amazon Kids+ may not be worth it
Amazon Kids alone may be sufficient if you mainly need screen-time limits, age filters, browsing restrictions, or access to books and apps you already own.
Kids+ may be a poor fit when:
- The child rarely uses the compatible device.
- The family already pays for overlapping children’s streaming, reading, gaming, or educational services.
- The child wants a specific title that is not available on the relevant device.
- The household uses an iPad or Android tablet and has not confirmed feature and catalog support.
- The child is outside Amazon’s stated primary 3–12 range.
- The parent wants a video-only service rather than a mixed catalog.
- The family is likely to forget the automatic renewal after a trial or device bundle.
Alternatives to consider
If the main need is free educational media, PBS Kids offers a more focused alternative. If the priority is broad video access, YouTube Kids is a different, video-centered option whose current advertising and parental-control details should be reviewed separately.
Families using Apple devices can combine an iPad with Apple Family Sharing and Screen Time, while Android households can use Google Family Link. These tools manage devices and apps but are not replacements for the bundled Kids+ content catalog. They generally require parents to choose and, where applicable, pay for books, apps, games, and streaming services separately.
Before you subscribe: a five-minute checklist
- Confirm whether you need premium content or only free parental controls.
- Check the live U.S. price while signed in to the correct Amazon account.
- Verify the device, operating system, and specific titles your child will use.
- Read the trial or device-bundle end date and automatic-renewal terms.
- Set a calendar reminder or Amazon renewal reminder before activating the offer.
Common problems and their fixes
“I have Prime, but Kids+ asks me to pay.”
That is normal. Prime qualifies you for the discounted rate; it does not unlock Kids+ at no charge. Confirm that you are signed in to the Amazon account with Prime and that the displayed price reflects the membership.
“The Kids+ content is missing from my child’s device.”
Check that the device uses the same Amazon account, the correct child profile is selected, the device is online and updated, the title works on that device, the age filter does not block it, and the subscription is still active.

Check the subscription status in Your Memberships & Subscriptions and Parent Dashboard. Access may remain available through the end of a paid period, while downloaded or separately owned content may continue to appear.
“I was charged after the free device period.”
That is consistent with automatic renewal if the subscription was not canceled. Check the renewal date and subscription status. If the charge appears unauthorized or incorrect, contact Amazon customer service.
“An annual price elsewhere does not match mine.”
Use the live U.S. Amazon offer as the final authority. Prices may differ because of geography, Prime status, plan type, promotion, tax, account eligibility, or an expired article.
