Donald Trump appears briefly in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), not the original Home Alone. In the Plaza Hotel, Kevin asks him for directions, and Trump points him onward. Why Trump was included is disputed: director Chris Columbus and Trump later gave conflicting accounts of how the cameo came about.
Which Home Alone movie features Trump?
The cameo is in the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Trump appears as himself during a brief exchange with Kevin at the Plaza Hotel. The Associated Press identifies Trump as the hotel’s owner from 1988 to 1995. Associated Press

It is often described casually as a Trump appearance in “Home Alone,” but that shorthand can wrongly suggest the first film. His scene is in the sequel, and it is a short directions exchange rather than a substantial role.
Why was Trump in the movie?
The public accounts differ. Columbus said the production paid a location fee to film at the Plaza, but Trump also made his appearance a condition of using the hotel. Trump, in turn, said the filmmakers approached him persistently and that he agreed to appear. The reporting establishes that both men made these claims; it does not independently establish what was said in the private negotiations.

The cameo’s appearance in some versions of the film is a separate issue from how it was originally secured. The Guardian reported that CBC said its broadcast copy had been edited in 2014 and that Trump’s scene was among several omissions because they were considered “not integral to the plot.” That explanation does not establish a political motive for the edit.

The Guardian also reported that Macaulay Culkin said in 2021 he was “sold” on digitally removing Trump from the film. That comment was separate from CBC’s explanation of its edited broadcast version.
