Winston Gooze survives the final fight, defeats corrupt CEO Bob Garbinger, and wakes in hospital to learn the public sees him as a hero. He also begins repairing his relationship with his stepson, Wade. During the credits, Wade performs in a talent show. The post-credits scene reveals Kissy Sturnevan is alive and transformed, before shifting to Winston’s grilled-cheese tutorial. Kissy’s survival suggests a possible sequel, but does not establish that one has been approved.
Does Winston die at the end of The Toxic Avenger?
No. Winston survives the final confrontation and defeats Garbinger. He wakes in hospital and discovers that Garbinger’s crimes have been exposed and the public regards him as a hero. The ending also resolves Winston’s personal conflict with Wade: the two begin to reconnect after the danger has passed. SuperHeroHype’s ending explainer describes these outcomes.
The ending brings together a public victory and a private one. Winston’s transformation into Toxie gives him the means to protect his community, while the reconciliation with Wade makes the conclusion about more than defeating a villain. That is an interpretation of the ending; the film’s official synopsis describes Winston’s journey as moving “from outcast to savior” while he protects his son, friends, and community. Legendary’s official synopsis provides that framing.
What happens during the credits?
Wade takes part in a talent show. His performance gradually wins over the crowd as Winston watches, extending the father-and-son resolution into a quieter coda. The performance appears during the credits, before the post-credits scene. What’s After The Credits? distinguishes the credits performance from the later scene.

Is there a post-credits scene?
Yes. The scene first reveals that Kissy Sturnevan survived. She appears with her face heavily bandaged and says, “There’s nothing they can do to us, Robert,” according to the credits catalog. Another explainer reports that Kissy has ingested the same radioactive material associated with Winston and Bob and has become dangerous, fighting J.J. and trying to harm Winston and Wade. SuperHeroHype’s post-credits explainer covers the action, while What’s After The Credits? reports the line and the bandaged-face reveal.
After Kissy’s reveal, the film abruptly turns to Winston addressing the camera with instructions for making grilled cheese. Wade joins him to eat. The credits catalog describes the cooking segment as about two minutes long. The domestic cooking bit after the threat plays as a comic anticlimax and a fourth-wall-breaking flourish rather than a conventional dramatic resolution.

Does the post-credits scene confirm a sequel?
No. Kissy’s survival leaves room for another story, but a sequel hook is not a production announcement. The credits scene includes an intentionally absurd tag suggesting Toxie will return if the film reaches $1 billion in domestic box office; that figure is a joke within the tag, not a forecast or evidence of a deal. When SuperHeroHype published its explainer on August 29, 2025, it said a sequel had not been greenlit. That report establishes the status only as of that date; it does not confirm a later change.
Where the film fits in the franchise
Macon Blair wrote and directed this 2023 film, which reached US theaters in 2025 after an earlier festival life. The Associated Press reported that the film had been shot years earlier and that Cineverse secured its theatrical release. Blair described the style to AP as “something that could be more of like a live-action cartoon,” while franchise creator Lloyd Kaufman praised Blair’s version. Those are attributed creative opinions, not a claim of universal critical consensus. The Associated Press report covers the release context and remarks.

Blair also said he wanted longtime Troma fans and viewers unfamiliar with the original to feel served by the film. In a 2023 interview with /Film, he explained that he wanted to respect the original’s devoted audience while reaching moviegoers less familiar with it. The /Film interview provides that context.
