The “world’s richest stunt double” label points to a specific reported record: the Los Angeles Times said the 1986 Guinness Book of World Records listed Robinson as the highest-paid stunt man for a single stunt, with a reported $100,000 payment for a CN Tower jump associated with High Point. That is not evidence that he had the highest total wealth among stunt performers.
Who was Dar Robinson?
Dar Allen Robinson was an American stunt performer and actor. The American Film Institute’s catalog records his stunt-related film work, placing him within the film industry as a working performer rather than only as a record-holder. The catalog also says he held 21 stunt records; that count is AFI’s reported figure, not an independently audited tally.
His reputation rested on the unusual scale of the stunts associated with his career. In 1990, actor Danny Glover described Robinson in court as “one of the world’s greatest stuntmen,” a personal characterization reported by the Los Angeles Times, not an official ranking.
Why was Dar Robinson called the world’s richest stunt double?
The nickname is best understood as a headline shorthand for a reported one-stunt payment, not as a finding about Robinson’s fortune. In 1986, the Los Angeles Times reported that the 1986 Guinness Book of World Records listed him as the highest-paid stunt man for a single stunt. The newspaper attached a $100,000 payment to his CN Tower jump associated with the film High Point.

A fee for one stunt and a person’s overall wealth are different measures. The newspaper’s account supports the historical claim about a single reported payment; it does not establish Robinson’s total earnings, assets, or net worth, nor compare his wealth with that of other stunt performers. The figure should therefore be repeated with its source and single-stunt context.
How did Robinson become a public stunt figure?
Robinson’s visibility extended beyond film work. A 1980 UPI report connected him with the ABC special The World’s Most Spectacular Stuntman and described a planned Grand Canyon stunt involving a car and a parachute. The report documents the program and the planned stunt premise; it should not, by itself, be treated as confirmation that every described element was completed as planned.

That television-era attention helps explain why Robinson became known to audiences outside film crews. His public image was built around high-risk spectacle, while the record claim that later attached to his name concerned a specific reported payment.
How did Dar Robinson die?
Robinson died at age 39 in a motorcycle incident during filming of Million Dollar Mystery in 1986. AFI’s catalog records his death during production, and contemporaneous Los Angeles Times coverage describes the incident as occurring during a motorcycle chase scene in Arizona. These accounts establish the broad circumstances; they do not warrant adding more specific causal details beyond what those sources report.

What documentary commemorates Dar Robinson?
The Ultimate Stuntman: A Tribute to Dar Robinson was reportedly made in 1988, according to a tribute page on Stuntman.com. The available account does not establish the documentary’s format or whether it can currently be watched or purchased, so its existence should not be taken as confirmation of present availability.
The same tribute page attributes this line to Robinson: “I want every stunt I do to not only set new world records, but also put everyone watching totally on the edge of their seats.” It is an evocative expression of the ambition associated with his work, though the page’s attribution has not been independently confirmed.
