How the movie relates to the Galaxy games
The film’s title references the Super Mario Galaxy games, but Nintendo describes the movie as an animated film based on the wider Super Mario Bros. world. The games are interactive video games; the movie is a separate theatrical work. Nintendo’s movie page links to the classic Galaxy games, while the 2025 anniversary announcement separately discussed a Nintendo Switch release of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, Rosalina’s illustrated hardcover Storybook, and Mario & Luma / Rosalina & Lumas amiibo figures with in-game rewards. Those game-related products are not evidence that the film is a direct game adaptation or that specific movie merchandise is currently available. Nintendo’s anniversary announcement
