Spoilers for Season 3, Episode 11. In “We’ll Always Have Cousins,” Belly chooses Conrad in Paris, then the finale’s closing narration places them together again at Cousins Beach. The episode also gives Jeremiah a successful dinner after a last-minute venue change, while Steven and Taylor decide to move to California together. This is the television finale’s ending—not a scene-by-scene adaptation of the book’s conclusion.
What happens to Belly and Conrad in Paris?
Conrad arrives in Paris on Belly’s birthday. Their reunion is awkward at first, but a day spent visiting landmarks gives them room to reconnect. A rooftop view of the city shifts their conversation toward the history and feelings they have avoided.
Belly invites Conrad to her birthday dinner, where her Paris friends get a fuller picture of their past. She had already ended her relationship with Benito six weeks earlier. Conrad gives her sand from Cousins Beach, a small gift that brings their shared history into the present.
Later, the two dance by the Seine and talk through painful moments from their relationship. They kiss and return to Belly’s apartment. She subsequently chases after Conrad and makes clear that choosing him is her decision. In the closing voiceover, Belly says she eventually returned to Cousins with Conrad beside her; the final image is the two of them outside the beach house. What happens in Cousins while Belly is in Paris?
Jeremiah’s dinner finds a new venue
Jeremiah prepares a four-course pop-up dinner, but a leak makes the planned venue unusable. Denise helps him move the dinner to the beach house, where the event goes ahead. At the end of the evening, Jeremiah and Denise kiss.
Steven and Taylor make a decision
Denise tells Steven that she and Steven are moving to San Francisco to start a business. Taylor initially reacts badly after overhearing the news, but she and Steven talk it through and agree to move to California together.

Laurel and John remain on good terms

Why does Paris matter to Belly’s ending?
Paris is more than a backdrop for Belly’s reunion with Conrad. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Jenny Han said sending Belly to Paris after her broken engagement to Jeremiah—rather than Spain, as in the books—was a deliberate way to push her beyond her comfort zone. Han connected the storyline to finding strength while living and studying away from home, and said the Paris idea drew partly on her own early adulthood and the image of Audrey Hepburn in the city. She had pitched Paris early in the show’s development.
That framing matters: Belly’s return to Conrad follows time spent building a life away from home, not simply a choice between two brothers. As Han put it, “I think you have to find out who you are alone before you can really be with somebody else.” She also described Jeremiah’s development as a reminder that “growth is not linear.” [Los Angeles Times interview, September 15, 2025]

The season 3 finale does not show Belly and Conrad’s wedding. The novel includes a wedding, but that event is not part of the episode. TV Insider’s June 22, 2026 update says the film’s plot had not been fully confirmed at publication, so later screen plans should not be treated as events in this finale. [TV Insider, June 22, 2026]
The clearest adaptation differences are the setting—Paris in the show rather than Spain in the books—and how the series uses Belly’s time away to dramatize independence. The finale also gives space to the Cousins ensemble, resolving Jeremiah, Denise, Steven, Taylor, Laurel, and John’s immediate storylines alongside Belly’s romantic ending.
