Spoilers for the series finale, “At Last.” Belly chooses Conrad. After spending about a year in Paris following the cancellation of her wedding to Jeremiah, she reconnects with Conrad; the finale ends with them together, but does not show their wedding. Jenny Han’s announced feature film is intended to continue Belly’s story.
How does The Summer I Turned Pretty end?
In the third-season finale, “At Last,” Belly is living in Paris, where she has been for about a year. Conrad arrives the day before her 22nd birthday, ahead of a medical conference in Brussels. His unexpected appearance catches her off guard, and she is initially guarded, but she agrees to show him around.
Belly takes Conrad to a rooftop that matters to her. As they talk about the time since her wedding to Jeremiah was called off, the distance between them begins to ease. She invites Conrad to dinner with her Paris friends; they reconnect over the evening and leave together. The episode makes her choice clear: Belly and Conrad are together again.
The finale then returns them to Cousins Beach after time has passed. Its closing images also include Christmas in Paris, suggesting a renewed life shared between them. The episode resolves the central love triangle, but stops before depicting a wedding.

What happens to Jeremiah, Steven and Taylor?
Jeremiah has a separate resolution rather than remaining in an open contest with Conrad for Belly. Finale coverage reports that he is with Denise; TVLine describes him getting attention as a young chef and kissing Denise. Steven and Taylor agree to move to San Francisco together. These endings settle the characters’ immediate storylines without establishing everything about their futures.
Why doesn’t the finale show Belly and Conrad’s wedding?
Creator and showrunner Jenny Han told TheWrap on September 18, 2025, that she did not want to rush past the reunion to squeeze in what followed. “The series was all building towards Belly and Conrad’s reunion, and I just didn’t want to take away from that and then short shrift the audience with five minutes of seeing what comes next,” she said. Han called a movie a fitting way to give the next milestone its due.

Han also explained the return to Cousins: “I wanted to see Belly go back home and to her favorite place in the world.” In her view, seeing more of the world made Cousins all the dearer to Belly. The ending therefore gives the reunion and return to that familiar place room to matter, rather than treating the wedding as an afterthought in the last minutes.
What is confirmed about the announced movie?
Amazon announced a feature film directed by Han as the concluding chapter of Belly’s journey. The announcement describes another major milestone ahead, but leaves the plot specifics and full cast under wraps. Han said, “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due.”
In a September 18, 2025 interview, TheWrap reported that Han had a script draft, filming remained to be done, and no release timeline had been set. Those details do not establish a release date or confirm that the movie will depict a wedding. Amazon says Prime Video is the streaming home for all three seasons.
How does the series ending compare with the books?
The show and Jenny Han’s final novel, We’ll Always Have Summer, share the same romantic destination: Belly and Conrad end up together. The route and the milestone shown on screen differ. As TIME’s finale explainer notes, the television story takes Belly to Paris and gives her time living independently before Conrad arrives. Variety’s finale coverage notes that the books end with Belly and Conrad’s wedding; the series finale does not show one, leaving that next chapter for the announced film.
