Spoilers for the Thousand-Year Blood War manga and anime. There is no official strongest-to-weakest Sternritter ranking, so this list is an interpretation of their demonstrated threat, abilities, survivability, and the counters opponents found. Yhwach is excluded: he leads the Quincy forces, but is not one of his subordinate Sternritter. Ability matchups can change the outcome, so the order is best read as a reasoned comparison rather than a definitive power scale.
What makes one Sternritter stronger than another?
The Sternritter serve Yhwach in his campaign against Soul Society, and their powers create very different kinds of danger. The official Thousand-Year Blood War story summary establishes their role in the assault, but neither it nor the official character roster supplies a strongest-to-weakest order.

This ranking weighs four things: what a character demonstrates in battle, how hard their ability is to answer, how well they endure counterattacks, and whether an opponent needed an unusual opening or condition to stop them. It separates combat effectiveness from organizational standing. In particular, Haschwalth’s command role matters as context, but does not by itself prove he would beat every other Sternritter.
Strongest Sternritter: the ranking
-
Jugram Haschwalth
Haschwalth is the strongest overall pick here because he combines exceptional standing in Yhwach’s forces with an ability set that makes a straightforward contest difficult. The official character page identifies him as commander of the Sternritter and Yhwach’s aide. That is evidence of trust and position, not a canonical combat ranking; his placement at number one is an interpretation of his threat and role, not an official verdict.

-
Uryū Ishida
Uryū belongs near the very top because his importance to the final conflict and the danger of his power make him more than a conventional subordinate. His exact position relative to Haschwalth, Lille, or Gerard is especially debatable: a ranking that privileges direct combat showings and durability could place other fighters above him. This list gives weight to the ceiling of his ability and his narrative standing, while avoiding the claim that those factors settle every matchup.
-
Lille Barro
Lille is one of the central elite-guard contenders. His ability presents a severe problem for opponents who cannot reach or meaningfully harm him, making him a strong choice for the top tier. His placement below Uryū and Haschwalth reflects the difficulty of comparing distinct kinds of power, not a settled result in a hypothetical fight.
Rank #2
-
Gerard Valkyrie
Gerard’s defining advantage is extraordinary resilience: an opponent may need more than a powerful attack to make progress against him. That makes him a contender for the top spot if survivability and the difficulty of ending a fight are weighted most heavily. He sits just below Lille here because abilities that bypass, exploit, or otherwise answer durability can shift the balance; raw endurance is not a universal defense.
-
Pernida Parnkgjas
Pernida is dangerous because its threat is not limited to striking power. Its unusual nature and ability to affect opponents make it difficult to approach safely, and the fight can become more dangerous as an opponent tries to respond. Pernida ranks below the top four in this reading, but a matchup that rewards adaptation and punishes close contact could put it higher.

-
Askin Nakk Le Vaar
Askin’s strength lies in turning an opponent’s own tolerance and exposure into liabilities. That makes him a formidable specialist: a fighter who seems stronger on paper can still be vulnerable if Askin gets the opportunity to establish his conditions. He ranks sixth because his threat is unusually matchup-sensitive, not because his ability is modest.
-
Gremmy Thoumeaux
Gremmy is the major challenger outside the elite-guard group. His imagination-based power gives him an extraordinary ceiling and the potential to create lethal situations quickly. The same power also makes his performance difficult to compare with fighters whose strengths are more consistently demonstrated; capability and reliable execution are not the same thing. A ranking focused on maximum potential could put him above several names on this list.
Why this order is debatable
The official roster confirms Haschwalth’s command role and names Pernida, Askin, Gerard, and Lille among the characters, but it does not rank their combat strength. The official character page is useful for those identities and roles; the ordering above is a judgment based on the story’s conflicts, not a ranking published by the franchise.
There is also a difference between being hard to defeat and being favored against every possible opponent. Gerard’s resilience, Lille’s difficulty to hit, Pernida’s threat at close range, and Askin’s specialized conditions can each dominate a favorable matchup. Meanwhile, Haschwalth’s command position and Uryū’s exceptional importance do not automatically settle a direct duel. Readers who value demonstrated combat outcomes above ability ceilings may reasonably move Gerard or Lille to the top.
