Where Emily Blunt and John Krasinski met
In a joint interview published by The Hollywood Reporter in 2018, Blunt and Krasinski said they met at a restaurant in 2008. Blunt later supplied more detail in an account retold by The Independent: she was there with a mutual friend named Gray, who pointed out that Krasinski was also a friend. Krasinski was dining with Justin Theroux, then came over to meet her.
The shared outline is clear, though the more detailed version comes from Blunt’s recollection: a mutual friend connected them, and Krasinski crossed over from Theroux’s table.
What they remembered about their first conversation
Their descriptions of the first meeting capture different sides of the same encounter. In a CBS News report on their CBS Sunday Morning interview, Krasinski recalled the handshake and his immediate reaction: “I shook her hand, and — no joke — my head just went, ‘Oh no…’” He said he knew right away.

Blunt remembered the conversation as easy and said Krasinski was funny and sweet. “We talked until five in the morning that night. And that was it!” she said. Her account gives the meeting a simple turning point: conversation that lasted through the night.
Who asked whom on their first date?
They have not settled that question publicly. In the 2018 joint interview, Blunt said, “Probably me, I think,” and then reaffirmed that she thought she had initiated it. Krasinski remembered it differently: “It was me asking for a while and you took some time, and then we finally had a date.” Their playful disagreement is the answer; neither account overrides the other.

What they have shared about the first date
The couple said the date included pizza at Krasinski’s apartment in West Hollywood. Beyond that, Blunt chose to keep the memory private, telling the interviewer, “It’s so precious, I don’t want to talk about it. Is that all right?” The public story stops there: a date, pizza, and no further details from the couple.
