What the “$40 million box office dud” headline leaves out
The budget figures available do not agree. The November 3, 2025 headline article reported a $40 million production budget, while The Numbers lists $50 million. Neither amount is confirmed by the A24 page reviewed here, so neither should be treated as a definitive studio-confirmed budget.
Box-office totals also differ by source. The Numbers lists a worldwide gross of $20,409,324, divided into $11,411,388 domestic and $8,997,936 international. Box Office Mojo lists a worldwide total of $21,131,147. Those figures were accessed October 8, 2026; name the database when quoting a total rather than treating them as interchangeable.

“Dud” is a judgment about theatrical performance, not a verdict on whether the film is worth watching at home. A box-office gross and a production-budget estimate alone do not establish profitability: these figures do not account for marketing, distribution costs or ancillary revenue.
