There is a minor date discrepancy in ABC’s own listings: the consumer-facing ABC episode guide shows “The Bandit” as May 5. Why did The Rookie move from Tuesday to Monday?
Season 8 initially aired on Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific. The first three episodes followed that pattern:
- Episode 1: Tuesday, January 6
- Episode 2: Tuesday, January 13
- Episode 3: Tuesday, January 20
Beginning with Episode 4, “Cut and Run,” ABC moved the show to Mondays at 10:00 p.m. The episode aired on January 26, followed by weekly Monday episodes through the May 4 finale.

The change was a planned timeslot relocation, not an open-ended hiatus. ABC used the Tuesday 10 p.m. slot for its new drama R.J. Decker, which began airing there on March 3, 2026. TheWrap reported that ABC intended to run the remaining The Rookie episodes consecutively, without reruns or scheduled interruptions. What is confirmed about Season 9?
ABC has officially renewed The Rookie for Season 9. The network’s 2026 programming announcement says the new season will debut in 2027. ABC Press also describes Season 9 as arriving on ABC in 2027.
That is the full confirmed timing at this stage. ABC has not announced:
- an exact Season 9 premiere date;
- a confirmed premiere month;
- the Season 9 timeslot;

According to TheWrap’s July 2026 report, the closing cliffhanger involves Tim Bradford proposing to Lucy Chen. Lucy accepts, but the pair are then kidnapped. The report also says the production filmed an alternate ending, making the finale’s reported cliffhanger especially relevant to questions about what Season 9 may address.
