Spoilers for “The Network,” Season 8, Episode 5. Tru Valentino returns as Aaron Thorsen, helping Lt. Grey and an FBI task force pursue a criminal communications network. At the same time, Lucy and Celina investigate two deputies’ account of a shooting—and uncover a cover story. Nolan and Bailey’s disagreement about a possible move to Washington, D.C., leaves their relationship unsettled.
What is “The Network” about?
Season 8, Episode 5, titled “The Network,” runs two investigations in parallel. In one, Lt. Grey and an FBI task force try to expose a criminal network. In the other, Nolan, Miles, Lucy, and Celina respond to a puzzling officer-involved shooting involving two deputies.
The episode’s central tension comes from the contrast: the task force must get inside a tightly controlled criminal operation, while Lucy and Celina test whether the story told by two fellow officers can be trusted.
How does Aaron Thorsen help the task force?
Tru Valentino returns as Aaron Thorsen. Garza brings him in to assist the task force because Aaron has a connection to Kadir from their time in prison. The operation uses that connection as part of its approach to the criminal network.

TV Insider’s recap supplies the more detailed account of the operation: it leads the group to a server farm beneath the L.A. River, where Nolan, Aaron, Garza’s niece, and a Navy SEAL take part in a stealth entry. The same recap says Monica acts on her own and warns someone that the secure phone network is no longer secure.
What do Lucy and Celina discover about the shooting?
Deputies Colleen and Ian say they were shot while meeting an informant. Lucy and Celina investigate their account. In TV Insider’s recap, Lucy reads the blood-spatter evidence, with ballistics supporting her interpretation, as evidence that the deputies shot each other.

The recap says Ian shot Colleen first, after which the pair tried to coordinate a false account of what happened. Their explanation of an attack therefore gives way to a case about an attempted cover-up.
Why are Nolan and Bailey arguing?
Bailey is interested in a job in Washington, D.C., and the possibility of moving there. Nolan does not want to leave Los Angeles, where his life and job are rooted. Their disagreement grows into a confrontation about the state of their marriage.

The episode leaves that conflict unresolved. It presents a relationship cliffhanger, not a confirmed separation or divorce.
