NDTV reported on September 14, 2026, that Johnson said he went from 282 pounds at the start of filming The Smashing Machine to 235 pounds for Lizard Music over almost a year. Those are self-reported figures, not independently verified measurements.
What changed, according to Johnson
NDTV’s September 14, 2026 report summarized an Instagram update in which Johnson attributed his slimmer look to his current role, Lizard Music. He reportedly said he weighed 282 pounds when he began filming The Smashing Machine and 235 pounds for Lizard Music, a change over almost a year. The report characterized the loss as roughly 50 pounds; the two reported figures differ by 47 pounds.
In the same reported update, Johnson said, “At this current weight and body composition, I’ve never felt better.” That is his personal statement, not a medical assessment. The report does not provide an independent weigh-in, body-fat measurement, health result, or breakdown of how much of the change was fat or muscle. NDTV’s report
Why a film role can call for a different look
Johnson’s previous major transformation offers context, but not a complete explanation of his current one. The Associated Press reported that The Smashing Machine required him to shape his muscles to resemble an MMA fighter rather than a wrestler. The production also changed his voice, hair, and facial appearance with prosthetics. That account shows how a screen role can alter both physique and appearance; it does not detail the training or diet behind his Lizard Music look.

Johnson described the acting challenge of The Smashing Machine to AP by saying, “It’s not easy to think, ‘Hey, I’m capable of doing this and I know I can do this.’” He was discussing the uncertainty of taking on the role, not giving a method for losing weight. The Associated Press’s report
What is known about his last WWE appearance
NDTV reported that Johnson’s last WWE appearance was on March 1, 2025. That date marks an appearance, not a retirement announcement. The report also covered his promise of a future WrestleMania appearance, but gave no return date. It does not establish that the weight change was made for wrestling or that a comeback is imminent.

WWE’s official profile describes Johnson’s return to the ring in early 2024 and his on-screen run. Comparing that period with his film-era appearance is most useful when the purpose and evidence are kept distinct: a wrestling presentation, a role-specific film transformation, and reported scale figures are not interchangeable measures.
