The season had a firm start date—August 16, 2024—while Disney gave only a broad “later that fall” window for the villains and Incredibles. Those dates are historical, not confirmation that the items or events are available now.
What Disney announced for Fortnite at D23
The announcements came during the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event showcase. Disney said more than 1.3 million concurrent players watched the presentation in Fortnite, according to its Disney Parks Blog account. The reveals covered several Disney-owned franchises, but their formats and timing differed.
| Franchise | What was previewed | Timing stated at D23 |
|---|---|---|
| Disney Animation | Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook, described as the first Disney Animation characters joining Fortnite. | Later in fall 2024; no individual launch dates were given. |
| Pixar | The Incredibles, previewed as Pixar’s first Fortnite content. | Later in fall 2024. |
| Star Wars | IG-11, Moff Gideon, and a new Grogu Back Bling. | Expected the following week, according to the announcement. |
| Marvel | Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5, Season 4: Absolute Doom, featuring Doctor Doom. | Season start announced for August 16, 2024. |
Disney’s announcement did not specify individual release dates for the Disney Animation villains or The Incredibles. The Star Wars timing was also expressed relatively—as the following week—rather than with a calendar date. See the Disney Parks Blog announcement for the original reveal.
When did Fortnite’s Doctor Doom season start?

Doom quests and the Isle of Doom were limited-time content
Epic’s September 4, 2024 season post described Doom quests and rewards, including Doom’s Outfit and Doomblade Pickaxe for owners of the Absolute Doom Battle Pass. The post said the quests were available through November 2, 2024 at 2 a.m. ET. It also gave October 5, 2024 at 1 p.m. ET as the revised end time for the Isle of Doom. These were 2024 deadlines; the post does not establish whether any related cosmetics later returned to the shop or are currently obtainable. Details are in Epic’s Absolute Doom post, which includes updates through September 24, 2024.
What the Disney-Epic partnership was meant to become
The D23 reveals were presented as part of a broader Disney-Epic collaboration, not as the launch of a finished shared Disney game. In February 2024, Epic described a planned open, persistent, social games and entertainment universe connected to Fortnite and bringing together Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and other properties. Its proposed activities included playing, watching, shopping, engaging with content, and creating and sharing stories. Disney said in August 2024 that this new experience was still a few years away at that time; the cited announcements do not confirm its present delivery status.

Epic’s February announcement said Disney had announced a $1.5 billion investment to acquire an equity stake in Epic Games, subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approvals. The same company announcement described Fortnite as having more than 100 million active players and creators; that was a February 2024 company-published figure, not a current player count. Read the original Epic Games partnership announcement for those details.

D23 reported plans and expected dates in August 2024. The season start and Epic’s later quest and event deadlines are past, and the cited posts do not establish present-day availability or future shop rotations. In particular, a historical announcement that a character or cosmetic was coming to Fortnite should not be treated as proof that it can still be obtained.
