Prime Video published the trailer on August 14, 2024, ahead of the season’s August 29 premiere.
What the Season 2 trailer says about Sauron
Prime Video’s trailer description says Sauron has been cast out by Galadriel and has neither an army nor an ally. It frames his next move as a test of cunning: he must rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings. The trailer’s promotional lines, “Sauron has returned” and “His power will change everything,” present that return as the season’s central threat.
That framing makes Sauron’s rise strategic rather than simply a matter of marching an army across Middle-earth. The official trailer coverage from Amazon likewise emphasizes discord, deception, manipulation, and the crafting of more Rings. These are the materials’ stated themes; the promotional copy does not independently establish how well the season develops them.
Why the Rings matter to the season’s conflict
The making of additional Rings is presented not as a side detail but as a key engine of the conflict. The trailer description connects Sauron’s effort to regain strength with his oversight of their creation, while Amazon’s coverage highlights the same process as part of the danger facing Middle-earth. In this pitch, influence and manipulation are bound up with the Rings themselves.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The trailer does not offer a detached account of the story or a scene-by-scene explanation of every Ring’s role. It promises a conflict shaped by Sauron’s designs and the consequences of making more Rings.
How the story fits into Middle-earth’s history
Amazon places the series in Tolkien’s Second Age, a period that its official coverage describes as paving the way toward the later quest to destroy the One Ring. That connects the show’s events to the familiar story without making Season 2 itself the One Ring quest: it is positioned as prehistory to it.

For viewers seeking background, Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings offers context for the later quest. It is optional background reading, not a prerequisite for following the series, and the trailer does not claim that every show detail follows Tolkien’s text.
