Kelsey denied being a “sugar baby”; reports also describe a disagreement over the “swinger” label. Those are claims and characterizations discussed by the cast and in coverage—not independently established facts about anyone’s private life.
What happened in the premiere?
Season 1, Episode 1, “Welcome to Rhode Island,” aired April 2, 2026. Bravo’s official episode synopsis says Jo-Ellen Tiberi and Rosie DiMare clash over rumors about Kelsey’s “unconventional relationship.” The episode also introduces Ashley as new to the group and brings secrets to the surface at Jo-Ellen’s Fourth of July party.
The episode’s conflict is about what cast members say and believe—not a verified account of Kelsey’s relationship. The distinctions matter: the “sugar baby” claim, questions about multiple partners, and the “swinger” label are not interchangeable descriptions.
Did Kelsey Swanson say she was a sugar baby?
No. In Us Weekly’s April 2, 2026 coverage, Kelsey denied the label, saying, “I am not a sugar baby. Nothing close to it.” She characterized the relationship as “very unorthodox” and said her boyfriend dates multiple people, including someone else while he spends part of the year in Miami.

Us Weekly also reported Kelsey’s account that she had lived a life of leisure for ten years and that her boyfriend had allowed her not to work. Those are her descriptions of her circumstances; the coverage does not independently verify the relationship or its finances.
How did Kelsey describe the relationship?
In an April 3, 2026 Swooon interview, Kelsey rejected Rosie’s suggestion that she was a polygamist, calling that term too dramatic. She said she and her boyfriend had at times had a “don’t ask, don’t tell” arrangement, and suggested “polyamorous” might be a closer description. She also emphasized that they were not married.

These terms have different meanings. “Polygamy” generally refers to having multiple spouses; “polyamory” describes consensual romantic relationships with more than one person. “Don’t ask, don’t tell” describes an arrangement about what partners disclose, not necessarily the same relationship structure. The interview records Kelsey’s own account and terminology; it does not establish a definitive label for the private relationship.
Are Jo-Ellen and Gary swingers?
The premiere coverage describes discussion of swinging, but it does not establish that Jo-Ellen and her husband, Gary, are swingers. The Daily Beast’s April 2, 2026 report says Jo-Ellen was open about threesomes while objecting to being labeled a swinger. That is a dispute over the label, not confirmation of the claim.
