What is The Platform 2 about?
Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, The Platform 2 takes place in the Vertical Self-Management center, known as the Pit. Inmates are held two to a level while a table laden with food descends through the prison. Each pair has only a short time to eat before the platform moves on.

The system is meant to be governed by a rule: inmates may eat only the dish they declared as their favorite before entering. Those on higher levels encounter the meal first; people farther down may find scraps or nothing. The rule is supposed to make allocation fair, but enforcing it becomes a source of conflict and violence.
Netflix announced a global release date of October 4, 2024. In its July 2024 announcement, Netflix also said the original The Platform had recorded 82,800,000 views in the service’s non-English Film Top Ten ranking. Who are the main characters?
- Perempuán (Milena Smit): A new resident whose experiences bring viewers into the Pit’s brutal system.
- Zamiatin (Hovik Keuchkerian): Perempuán’s fellow inmate.
- Sahabat (Natalia Tena) and Dagin Babi (Óscar Jaenada): Other key figures in the prison’s shifting power struggles.

Is The Platform 2 a sequel or a prequel?
Despite its title and initial impression, The Platform 2 is a prequel to the 2019 film The Platform. The connection becomes clear at the end, when Goreng, the earlier film’s central character, appears in the credits. What happens at the end? Spoilers ahead
After Babi’s followers order Perempuán punished, she is left injured. At the bottom of the Pit, a woman says the child must be sent back upward, while Perempuán must remain. The film then shifts into a sequence that connects its events to the first movie.
During the credits, adults carry children on the platform. Goreng appears carrying an unconscious Perempuán. In the final vignette, Perempuán emerges from darkness and reunites with him. These scenes establish the connection to The Platform, though they do not settle every symbolic question the ending may raise.

Netflix’s explainer identifies the Pit as having 333 levels. The ending’s images invite interpretation, but the concrete story information is the child’s ascent, Perempuán’s apparent death or incapacitation, and Goreng’s appearance with her in the credit sequence. Netflix Tudum’s ending explainer
