The Penguin is an eight-episode crime drama about Oz Cobb, the gangster also known as the Penguin. Developed and showrun by Lauren LeFranc, the DC Studios series continues the story world of Matt Reeves’ film The Batman, shifting the focus from the feature film’s wider crime saga to Oz’s rise and the people around him.
What is The Penguin about?
The series follows Oz Cobb, played by Colin Farrell, within the crime-story world established by The Batman. It is a limited series of eight episodes, rather than another feature film. Its character-focused format gives the Penguin the central role in a continuing story set in the same film saga.
DC Studios announced the series as a limited series. Lauren LeFranc developed it and serves as showrunner. HBO’s announcement also identifies Craig Zobel as director of the first three episodes.
How does it connect to The Batman?
The Penguin continues the crime saga begun in Matt Reeves’ The Batman; it is not presented as a separate adaptation or a remake of the film. The difference is format and focus: The Batman is a feature film, while the series devotes eight episodes to Oz Cobb and his place in that story world. The official announcement establishes that connection, but does not provide a complete account of the plot or specify every point of continuity.
