The Paris Review Interviews, Volume 2 is a 16-interview anthology bringing together writers’ reflections on their work and literary lives. The interviews first appeared between 1953 and 2006; Orhan Pamuk wrote the introduction. It is the second volume in a four-volume selection from the magazine—not a writing manual, but a chance to hear a varied group of literary figures speak in their own words.

The dates mark when the interviews originally appeared, not a single period in which they were all conducted. That span gives the collection a broad view of different careers, genres, and literary generations.
What kind of book is it?
This is a selected anthology of The Paris Review interviews, with an introduction by novelist Orhan Pamuk. Its central appeal is the writers’ own accounts of creative practice, literary careers, and ideas about writing. Readers may find useful perspectives or points of discussion, but the interviews are individual conversations rather than a systematic, step-by-step guide to writing.

Macmillan’s description includes a classroom endorsement from novelist and professor Colum McCann, so the book may also suit teaching or group discussion. That endorsement is not evidence of a guaranteed learning outcome.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to approach the collection
Because the interviews span more than five decades and move among novelists, poets, critics, and other literary figures, readers can follow the volume in order or choose conversations by writer. The collection is especially suited to readers who want to compare how different people describe the work behind a literary career, rather than look for one uniform method.
