The Penguin has not been officially renewed for a second season. A follow-up has been discussed as a possibility, but the latest located report, published on August 12, 2026, describes the series as being “in limbo” and says HBO and DC Studios had not issued an official statement on that report. That is uncertainty—not a renewal, cancellation, or production announcement.
Has The Penguin been renewed for season 2?
No official season-two order appears in the DC or Warner Bros. Discovery series pages. Those pages describe the existing eight-episode 2024 series, starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb and developed by Lauren LeFranc, as part of Matt Reeves’ The Batman saga. They do not announce another season. DC’s series page and the Warner Bros. Discovery pressroom establish what the show is, not a renewal.

What is the latest status?
A ComicBasics report dated August 12, 2026, attributed the “in limbo” description to The Ankler and said HBO and DC Studios had not issued an official statement addressing that report. It is the latest located update, but it is secondary reporting—not an official confirmation that the series is renewed or canceled. Read the August 2026 report.

The distinction matters: “possible” describes an option, “in conversations” describes discussion, and “in limbo” is a report about an uncertain status. None confirms a season order.

What would need to happen for another season?
The public comments point to two linked questions: whether there is a story worth continuing, and how it would fit around Reeves’ film plans. In July 2025, Bloys said the movie was Reeves’ priority and described LeFranc as considering ideas that might work alongside it. A month later, LeFranc said a further season would need to clear a high creative bar: the team would have to believe it could top the first.

Those comments explain why a follow-up could remain possible without being in development or ordered. They do not establish a production schedule, a plot, or a commitment from HBO.
Will Colin Farrell return?
Farrell’s comments have been cautious, but they are not a casting decision. In February 2025 he said he had “no deep desire” to return without a compelling idea, while leaving open the possibility of the right story. In July he said nothing was in process at that time, and in October he said he would bet against another season. None of those statements confirms that he has signed on or rules out a future return.

When could The Penguin season 2 come out?
There is no confirmed release date or production timetable in the cited official pages or reports. Without an announced order and schedule, a premiere window would be speculation. The comments about Reeves’ film priority and LeFranc’s search for a sufficiently strong story are not a timeline.
