The Old Guard 2 has the pieces of a promising continuation: Charlize Theron’s immortal warrior Andy is suddenly mortal, Quỳnh returns from her underwater prison, and a new threat puts the team in motion. But the sequel’s expanded mythology and unresolved momentum may leave viewers wanting a more complete story. It’s a Netflix action follow-up best approached for its returning cast and franchise setup, not as a neatly self-contained adventure.
Is The Old Guard 2 worth watching?
That depends on what you want from a sequel. If you’re invested in Andy and her allies, curious about Quỳnh’s return, or happy to watch a superhero story lay track for what may come next, the film offers a reason to tune in. If you want a satisfying standalone arc with a decisive payoff, its central risk is that the story can feel more like a bridge to another installment than a complete feature.
That concern echoes the Associated Press review, which characterized the film as feeling like “half a movie.” It is an outlet’s judgment, not an objective description, but it captures the main question for prospective viewers: does the setup earn the time it spends expanding the conflict, or does it defer too much resolution?
What is the story about?
Netflix’s official trailer sets up a team dealing with several disruptions at once: Booker remains in exile, Quỳnh has escaped her underwater prison, and Andy is confronting newfound mortality as a mysterious threat emerges. Andy, Nile, Joe, Nicky and Copley enlist Tuah’s help. That is the promotional setup; it does not, by itself, establish how clearly the finished film balances these threads.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The premise gives the sequel a useful tension: Andy’s changed condition challenges the idea that has defined her life, while Quỳnh’s return reopens a relationship with the team’s past. The new threat and the larger group provide the action machinery. The question is whether those elements deepen the character drama or compete with it for attention.

The films adapt Image Comics’ graphic novel series by Rucka and Fernández. Readers who want to explore the source material can look at Image Comics’ The Old Guard series page. It lists The Old Guard: The Immortal Edition Vol. 1 hardcover among the collected editions and retailers; availability can change, and it is a collection of the comics, not a movie companion.
What critics say—and what that tells you
Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 access snapshot lists 27% positive reviews from 109 critics, with an average rated review of 4.50/10. That is a dated, volatile aggregator figure, not a verdict that every viewer will share. The site’s consensus says: “Bogged down by tedious lore and lackluster execution, The Old Guard 2 finds this budding franchise already long in the tooth.”

The selected Metacritic reviews are less uniform: one calls the expansion of cast and lore sure-footed, another sees a capable streaming feature with action and introspection, and another describes it as a background movie. Taken together, those differing reactions point to the film’s balancing act—whether its mythology and ensemble add substance or make the experience feel diffuse.
