The Naked Gun debuted on Paramount+ on September 30, 2025, in the United States and Canada. The date is now past, so this is no longer an upcoming release. Liam Neeson leads the reboot as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the successor to Leslie Nielsen’s famously deadpan police detective.
The film is also available through digital rental and purchase services, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions available for viewers who want a permanent copy. Streaming catalogs, prices, and physical inventory can change.

Where to watch The Naked Gun now
In the U.S. and Canada, The Naked Gun is now streaming on Paramount+, subject to the service’s current catalog and plan availability. Paramount’s current film page also indicates that the first three films in the original Naked Gun series are available on the service at the time of its update.
Viewers who do not want another streaming subscription can also rent or buy the 2025 film digitally. Prime Video lists UHD rental and purchase options, as well as a two-film collection pairing the new movie with the 1988 original. Digital prices and availability vary by account, location, and time.

What the September 30 release date actually meant
Paramount announced on September 29, 2025, that The Naked Gun would arrive on Paramount+ the following day. That made September 30 a confirmed streaming launch date—not merely an expected date reported by earlier trade coverage.
#1 Best Overall
The film had already opened in theaters on August 1, 2025. Its later digital and physical releases followed the theatrical window, with home-video listings identifying November 2025 releases for 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Several retail sources use November 11, while some databases list November 10, so the exact physical release date can depend on the edition or listing being consulted.
What the Liam Neeson film is about
The Naked Gun is a new entry and reimagining of the broad police-spoof franchise that began with the 1988 film starring Leslie Nielsen. Neeson plays Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., carrying forward the character’s name and deadpan law-enforcement persona while putting a different kind of performer at the center of the comedy.
The premise uses Neeson’s established image as a stern action star against deliberately ridiculous material. The result is an action comedy built around physical gags, absurd situations, spoofed crime-film conventions, and jokes delivered with complete seriousness. Pamela Anderson, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, and other ensemble performers join Neeson.

Akiva Schaffer directed the film, and Seth MacFarlane is credited as a producer. Paramount Pictures presents the movie as a continuation of the franchise’s parody tradition rather than a straightforward remake of the original 1988 story.
How it compares with the original Naked Gun films
The 2025 film is connected to the earlier movies through the Drebin name, the police-spoof setup, and the franchise’s preference for visual absurdity over realistic procedural comedy. It is not simply a re-release of Leslie Nielsen’s original film, however: it introduces a new lead performance and a new version of Frank Drebin Jr.
That makes the best viewing order flexible:
- Watch the 2025 film first if you want to see the new version on its own and decide whether its style works for you.
- Start with the 1988 original if you want the clearest context for Nielsen’s Frank Drebin and the series’ comic template.
- Watch the films as a double feature if you are interested in how the new movie revisits the franchise’s deadpan police parody.
Prime Video’s listed two-film collection can be useful for viewers who want the 2025 film and the 1988 original together. It does not necessarily include every film in the original trilogy, so check the collection description before buying.

Buying the movie instead of streaming it
A physical copy makes the most sense for viewers who want access without relying on a changing streaming catalog, or who have a 4K home-theater setup. The 2025 release is available in 4K UHD, standard Blu-ray, and DVD formats. The 4K edition is the premium option; Blu-ray and DVD may be more practical for viewers whose equipment does not support 4K discs.
For a permanent physical copy, look for The Naked Gun (2025) 4K UHD Blu-ray. If you only need a standard disc, compare The Naked Gun 2025 Blu-ray with The Naked Gun DVD. Retailer stock, seller, shipping, and price should be checked at the time of purchase rather than assumed from an older listing.
Digital ownership is the middle option: it avoids physical-disc hardware while giving you access beyond a subscription window. Prime Video lists options to rent The Naked Gun digitally or buy it in UHD, although the available resolution and price can vary by market and device.
Rating and runtime
Rotten Tomatoes classifies the film as PG-13 and places it in the comedy, action, and crime categories. Families should check the rating details and their local platform listing before watching, particularly because the film’s parody-style violence and adult humor may not suit younger viewers.
Runtime metadata differs slightly between streaming and retail listings. Because of those discrepancies, check the specific Paramount+ or digital-store page for the current runtime rather than relying on a generalized figure.
