Persephone’s pale, nude-toned dress in The Matrix Reloaded was a bespoke latex costume designed by Kym Barrett and made by the film’s costume department for Monica Bellucci. Costume cutter Roger Tait said the team made three dresses because the unbacked latex was fragile. The crew polished it to a glass-like shine; the surviving production interviews do not identify a retail replica or the heels worn with it.
What Persephone’s dress was made of
Costume cutter Roger Tait described Bellucci’s nude dress as latex without net backing. He said the material was fragile enough that a nail or nick could start a cut, so the costume department made three versions as backups. These are production details from an archived interview, not specifications for a commercially available garment. Tait’s interview was conducted in December 2001 and published by Matrix Fans in 2012.
The documented count is three dresses, made as backups for the production—not three versions offered for sale. The interview does not state the latex gauge, measurements, pattern, or manufacturer.
Who designed it, and what inspired the look?
Costume designer Kym Barrett said the team understood Persephone as the queen of the fetish club Hel Night Club, within the film’s hyper-real visual world. Barrett also described drawing on Snow White’s witch and red-apple imagery, calling Persephone “the apple” and “the red, juicy Eve’s apple.” Barrett’s archived interview is dated May 2002.

How the costume got its glossy finish
Tait said the crew polished the latex with personal lubricant applied using a sponge. He contrasted the glossy body of the dress with an unpolished sleeve that looked dull. Was it based on a ready-made prom dress?
Tait said the crew looked at nude dresses in online prom stores for inspiration before making Bellucci’s costume. That does not mean the screen dress itself was bought off the rack: the available production account describes the final garment as made for the film. No commercial pattern or exact retail source is identified.
Can you buy the exact dress or identify the heels?
The archived interviews do not establish a current screen-matched replica, its maker, or a price. A modern latex dress in a similar color may evoke the look, but it should not be presented as the original costume or an exact replica without separate evidence.

A reader asked about the high heels Bellucci wore with the dress in the scene where she kisses Neo, but the question did not identify them, and the production interviews do not name a brand or model.
