Griffin on The Masked Singer Season 13 was actor James Van Der Beek. He was unmasked during the Group B Finals on March 19, 2025. The clues included a badge, a marked VHS tape and a story about a woman scraping dirt from his car; TVLine connected those clues to parts of Van Der Beek’s career and a story he had told before the show.

| Clue | TVLine’s interpretation | How direct is the connection? |
|---|---|---|
| Badge | A reference to Van Der Beek’s 2001 film Texas Rangers. | It depends on connecting the badge to the film; the clue alone does not identify him. |
| VHS tape with a jack-o’-lantern sticker | A reference to his uncredited appearance in the 2000 film Scary Movie. | It requires interpreting the tape and Halloween imagery as a film reference. |
| A woman scraping dirt from his car | A callback to a story Van Der Beek had told during a 2014 Reddit AMA. | This was the most biographical connection TVLine described: it linked the clue to an anecdote he had shared previously. |
TVLine also noted that Griffin performed “Rewrite the Stars” from The Greatest Showman. That song choice fit the musical clues, but the cited coverage does not establish it as a separate identity clue. See TVLine’s pre-reveal clue analysis.
Why did the panel guess David Arquette?
Before Griffin was unmasked, Ken Jeong guessed actor David Arquette. In a March 4, 2025 preview, TV Insider reported that Jeong pointed to clues involving the 1990s, VHS, a scary movie and a badge. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg agreed and added a high-school-bell clue and a possible connection to Never Been Kissed.
