The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 premiered on Netflix on February 5, 2026, and is now streaming. The season has 10 episodes and adapts Michael Connelly’s 2020 novel The Law of Innocence. It also gives the series a major perspective shift: Mickey Haller, usually the defense attorney, must defend himself after the body of con man Sam Scales is found in the trunk of his Lincoln.

The first three seasons are also available on Netflix. Here is what to know about the confirmed release, the Season 4 premise, the cast, the book connection, and the ending—with a clearly marked spoiler section below.

When did The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 come out?

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 was released on February 5, 2026. Netflix’s official Season 4 announcement and guide confirms that all 10 episodes arrived on that date.

What is Season 4 about?

Season 4 begins with the consequences of the Season 3 cliffhanger. The body of Sam Scales, a con man connected to a complicated criminal scheme, is discovered in the trunk of Mickey Haller’s car. The discovery puts Mickey at the center of a murder investigation—and turns him from defense lawyer into criminal defendant.

That reversal is the season’s central hook. Mickey has built his career by advising clients how to protect their rights, challenge the prosecution’s case, and survive public suspicion. Now he has to apply those same principles to his own situation while trying to protect his freedom, reputation, family, and law practice.

Netflix describes the case as Mickey’s most personal yet. The setup also gives the show an opportunity to examine what happens when a lawyer who is used to controlling the courtroom loses control of the narrative outside it.

How many episodes are in Season 4?

Season 4 has 10 episodes. It is based on The Law of Innocence, Michael Connelly’s sixth Mickey Haller novel, first published in 2020. The television series uses the novel as source material while adapting it for the show’s existing characters, relationships, and continuity.

Viewers should not assume that every scene or story detail appears exactly as it does in the book. The most accurate description is that Season 4 is an adaptation of The Law of Innocence, not a scene-by-scene reproduction.

Spoilers: what happens in the Season 4 investigation?

Stop here if you have not finished Season 4. The following section discusses major plot developments, including the murder investigation, Legal’s death, the FBI’s involvement, and the finale.

Sam Scales’ identities and the biofuel-subsidy scam

The investigation becomes more complicated as Mickey and his team uncover the significance of Sam Scales’ multiple identities. The murder is tied to a biofuel-subsidy scam, bringing the FBI into the case and widening the consequences beyond the initial discovery in Mickey’s car.

Alex Gazarian and Jeanine Ferrigno are connected to the investigation, while FBI pressure adds another layer to Mickey’s attempt to establish what happened and demonstrate that he was framed rather than responsible for the killing. The case is therefore not simply a matter of proving where Mickey was; it requires untangling the identities, money, and relationships surrounding Scales.

Legal’s death changes Mickey’s professional life

David “Legal” Siegel dies unexpectedly from a heart attack during the season. His death is both an emotional loss for Mickey and a professional turning point. Legal is Mickey’s mentor, and his absence affects the support system Mickey relies on while defending himself.

The development raises the personal stakes at the same time that Mickey’s legal crisis is becoming more dangerous. His defense is no longer just about clearing his name; it also forces him to confront how dependent his career and identity have been on the people around him.

How does Season 4 end?

By the finale, Mickey is ultimately exonerated. The ending resolves the central accusation while confirming how the larger Sam Scales investigation, the biofuel-subsidy scheme, the FBI’s pressure, and the suspected involvement of Alex Gazarian and Jeanine Ferrigno fit together.

For a scene-by-scene explanation of the finale, Netflix has published an official Season 4 ending explainer. It contains the same major revelations summarized above, so it is best read only after completing the season.

What book is Season 4 based on?

Season 4 is based on The Law of Innocence by Michael Connelly. The author’s official website also identifies the 2020 novel as the source for the fourth season, while publisher Hachette lists it as a Michael Connelly novel.

The novel is a natural next step for viewers who enjoy the show’s legal suspense and want to see how the Mickey Haller story works in print. It is also useful for readers who want to compare the show’s version of Mickey’s self-defense case with Connelly’s original story. The adaptation may change chronology, supporting characters, or details to fit the television series, so the book should be approached as the source rather than as a guarantee of identical plot mechanics.

Is Season 4 worth watching if you have not seen the earlier seasons?

Season 4’s murder case has its own central mystery, but the season depends heavily on the relationships and cliffhanger established earlier. Mickey’s history with Maggie, Lorna, Izzy, Cisco, Legal, and his family carries much of the emotional weight.

For the clearest experience, watch the seasons in order:
