Where Season 2 begins
The official synopsis places the story five years after Season 1. Joel and Ellie’s shared past draws them into conflict with one another and into a world more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind. That broad premise explains why the returning characters and the new Jackson and Abby-group cast appear together without giving away specific plot turns.
The season premiered April 13, 2025 and has seven episodes. HBO’s February 19, 2025 announcement specified a 9 p.m. ET/PT debut on HBO, with streaming on Max. That is historical U.S. schedule information; current availability varies by territory and can change. See HBO’s premiere announcement for the original date and schedule.
How the season connects to the game
For viewers curious about the source material, PlayStation describes The Last of Us Part II Remastered as Ellie and Abby’s story and names Dina, Jesse and Tommy among its playable characters. The television season can be followed without playing the game; the connection is optional context, not required viewing preparation. PlayStation’s game listing has the official product description.
