Quick answer: The Kashmir Files premiered on ZEE5 on May 13, 2022, following its March 11, 2022 theatrical release. The official ZEE5 announcement confirmed the date but did not publish a dependable launch hour. The latest India availability check listed the film on ZEE5; the latest U.S. check found no streaming option. Catalog rights, language tracks and subscription requirements can change by country.

Was an exact release time announced?
No reliable official source located for the film gives a clock time such as midnight IST. ZEE5 confirmed the calendar date, not a specific hour. Because the title is an on-demand listing rather than a scheduled broadcast, the practical answer is to check the catalog on the stated date; do not rely on claims that it premiered at 12:00 a.m.
Where can you watch it in India?
ZEE5
The latest India availability check listed The Kashmir Files on ZEE5. Open the ZEE5 website or app, search the exact title and verify that the result is the 2022 feature film. The service may require an account and a paid plan, and the displayed plan or access rule can change.
#1 Best Overall
- Factory sealed DVD
Use this path:
- Open ZEE5 and search for The Kashmir Files.
- Confirm the 2022 movie rather than the similarly named documentary series.
- Sign in if prompted and review the access requirement shown for your account and country.
- Check the available audio, subtitles and picture-quality controls in the player before starting.
JustWatch’s India page also lists ZEE5 as a streaming service. Its catalog data is a useful guide, but the final availability decision is made by the platform serving your location.
Airtel Xstream Play
Airtel customers may be able to play the film through Airtel Xstream Play’s title page when their prepaid, postpaid or broadband plan includes the relevant Xstream Play/ZEE5 benefit. A standalone Xstream Play subscription may also be offered.
Rank #2
- Celebrate the 20th anniversary of this enchanted classic, now for the first time on Blu-ray!
- “Included with an Airtel plan” means the telecom plan is paid; it is not universal free access.
- You may need to activate the OTT benefit before playback works.
- Eligibility can end when a plan expires or changes.
- The Airtel page specifically says this title is not available for download through its offline-viewing feature.
Can viewers in the United States, Canada or Australia stream it?
Availability is territory-specific. The latest available JustWatch U.S. check found no streaming service carrying the film in the United States, even though ZEE5 Global announced a 2022 launch in selected international markets, including the U.S., Canada and Australia. That historical launch announcement does not guarantee a current listing.
For another country, search the local ZEE5 catalog while signed in, or use a country-specific availability guide. The ZEE5 page describing the title as on demand is available here, but a page in one market does not prove that the same rights exist elsewhere. Do not treat a VPN, unauthorized upload or torrent as a dependable legal solution.
Rank #3
Is it free, and do you need a subscription?
No general free viewing option for the feature film in India was confirmed by the cited availability check. ZEE5 access normally depends on the plan or entitlement displayed for your account. Airtel customers may avoid a separate ZEE5 payment when an eligible, already-paid Airtel plan includes the benefit, but that is bundled access rather than a free service. A ZEE5 subscription can be poor value if you want only this film or if it is not licensed in your country.
Language, subtitles, quality and downloads
- Audio: The standard ZEE5 listing identifies Hindi. A global English-version page contains separate English audio/subtitle metadata. The exact tracks shown depend on territory and version.
- Subtitles: Check the player on your local listing; English subtitles may be offered on some versions, but they should not be assumed everywhere.
- Picture quality: Catalog pages carry differing metadata, including references to 4K on one listing. Actual resolution depends on the version, device, connection, account and territory, so 4K or HD should not be promised universally.
- Runtime: Listings vary, from approximately 170 minutes on JustWatch to 2 hours 43 minutes on a ZEE5 English page. This may reflect version, cut or metadata differences.
- Offline viewing: Airtel Xstream Play’s page says the film cannot be downloaded for offline viewing through that service. Other ZEE5 apps or countries may apply different rules; check the download control in your own app.
Do not confuse the film with The Kashmir Files: Unreported
The Kashmir Files is the 2022 feature drama directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumaar. The Kashmir Files: Unreported is a separate seven-episode documentary series, with episodes including “Paradise Plundered,” “The Genesis of Terrorism” and “Kashmir Today.”

| Title | Format | Where listed |
|---|---|---|
| The Kashmir Files | 2022 feature film | ZEE5; Airtel Xstream Play via ZEE5 in India, subject to eligibility |
| The Kashmir Files: Unreported | Seven-episode documentary series | Separate ZEE5 collection; availability differs from the film |
JustWatch lists the series separately, so selecting it will not answer a search for the feature movie.
