Spoilers for all of Cobra Kai Season 6, including the series finale. The Iron Dragons are a powerful team in the Sekai Taikai, led by Sensei Wolf and backed by Terry Silver. Their student stars Axel and Zara reach the championship finals, but both lose. The team finishes tied with Cobra Kai, and Johnny’s victory over Wolf in a deciding sensei match gives Cobra Kai the overall title.
Who are the Iron Dragons in Cobra Kai?
The Iron Dragons are an elite international karate team competing in the Sekai Taikai, the fictional world tournament at the center of the show’s sixth and final season. Netflix describes them as one of the tournament’s dominant forces. Their arrival raises the stakes for the Valley dojos: Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai are no longer dealing only with local rivals, but with a formidable team from outside their familiar circle.
Their leader is Sensei Wolf, played by Lewis Tan. The team’s most prominent student fighters are Axel, played by Patrick Luwis, and Zara, played by Rayna Vallandingham. Both become central to the tournament’s closing matches. Netflix Tudum’s finale explainer discusses the team and its role in the ending.
Why does Terry Silver recruit Sensei Wolf?
Silver wants the Iron Dragons to win the Sekai Taikai and use that victory to establish the dojo as number one in the world. He offers to pay Wolf’s debts and return ownership of his dojo in exchange for leading the team into the tournament. Silver’s plan is also aimed at humiliating Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai, making the Iron Dragons both a sporting threat and an instrument of his rivalry with the Valley dojos.

How do the Iron Dragons fare in the finale?
The final result unfolds across two student championships and a deciding match between the senseis:
- Girls’ final: Tory defeats Zara to claim the championship.
- Boys’ final: Miguel defeats Axel to take the title.
- Team score: Those results leave the Iron Dragons and Cobra Kai tied on team points.
- Deciding sensei match: Johnny faces Wolf and wins, securing the overall tournament victory for Cobra Kai.
Did the Iron Dragons win the Sekai Taikai?
No. They reach a tie with Cobra Kai after their student fighters lose the two finals, but the tournament’s deciding sensei match resolves the deadlock. Johnny’s win over Wolf makes Cobra Kai the champion, not the Iron Dragons.

Why does Johnny’s victory matter to the ending?
Johnny’s win gives the finale a personal resolution as well as a tournament result. Co-creator Jon Hurwitz told Netflix Tudum that the creative team wanted Johnny to return to the All Valley’s red mats and earn a victory that felt pure after working through his issues with Daniel. The Iron Dragons provide the final opponent against whom that arc culminates. Netflix Tudum’s ending coverage includes Hurwitz’s explanation.
Cobra Kai Season 6 is the series’ final season, comprising 15 episodes released in three parts, according to Netflix Tudum’s Season 6 guide.
