The final season of the cop show CBS canceled 3 times is season 8 of S.W.A.T., the Shemar Moore drama starring Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. CBS aired its two-hour series finale on May 16, 2025, and Netflix is the clearest current streaming home supported by official listings, although catalogs vary by country and can change.
The cancellation story involves three CBS decisions or effective cancellation points, with the first two reversed. The third cancellation, after season 8, ended the original CBS series rather than sending it to a different network.

What is the final season of the cop show CBS canceled 3 times?
The show is S.W.A.T., and its final season is season 8. Shemar Moore plays Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, an L.A.-born-and-raised sergeant who leads an elite S.W.A.T. team while balancing loyalty to his community with responsibility to fellow officers. That premise is summarized by Sony Pictures’ official series page, while Netflix’s official S.W.A.T. title page confirms the series’ current presence on the service.
CBS called the May 16, 2025 broadcast the “two-hour series finale of S.W.A.T.” The finale aired as back-to-back episodes, bringing the flagship series to an end after eight seasons. The network’s announcement provides the date and its official description of the event in the CBS/Paramount Press Express finale release.

Where can you watch S.W.A.T. season 8?
Netflix is the strongest current answer supported by the research. Netflix hosts an official S.W.A.T. title page, and Sony’s official listing identifies Netflix as a place to watch the series. That makes Netflix the clearest streaming destination for viewers looking for the completed show, including the final season, subject to the live catalog in the viewer’s country.
Streaming rights are not permanent or universal. A Netflix title page does not independently prove that every season and every episode is available to every account in every territory at all times. Check the Netflix catalog for the relevant country before subscribing specifically for S.W.A.T.
| Viewing option | What the research supports | Best for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Official S.W.A.T. title page; Sony lists Netflix as a viewing destination | Subscription streaming of the series | Season availability varies by territory and can change |
| Paramount+ | Season 8 was available during the original CBS broadcast window | Watching episodes while season 8 originally aired | Current access to all eight seasons is not established by the supplied sources |
| Digital purchase | Availability aggregators identify purchase options, including Amazon Video | Viewers who want access without relying on a subscription catalog | Pricing, inventory, and season coverage are volatile |

Why was S.W.A.T. canceled three times?
The “canceled three times” description refers to repeated CBS cancellation decisions and reversals, not to three network changes. The sequence is:
- After season 6: CBS canceled S.W.A.T. in 2023, then reversed that decision and ordered a seventh season.
- After the season 7 plan: CBS initially presented season 7 as the final season, but renewed S.W.A.T. for season 8 in April 2024.
- After season 8: CBS canceled the series again in 2025. Season 8 therefore became the final season, and the prospect of a season 9 on CBS ended.
The first two cancellation points were reversed, which is why headlines can make the show’s history sound more complicated than it was. S.W.A.T. did not move between three different networks as a result of those decisions. TheWrap’s account of the CBS cancellations documents the repeated decisions, while CBS’s April 2024 renewal announcement confirms the season 8 reversal. In that announcement, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said, “The show continues to resonate with viewers thanks to our talented cast led by Shemar Moore and our amazing writers and producers who keep the show relevant and action-packed.”

Was S.W.A.T. canceled after season 7?
S.W.A.T. was initially expected to end after season 7, but CBS renewed it for season 8 in April 2024. The renewal was described as a surprise at the time, so season 7 was not the final season after all. CBS later ended the series after season 8, making the eighth season the definitive final chapter of the original CBS run.
CBS’s official background page also reported historical audience figures for the 2023–24 season: 6.1 million Nielsen Most Current viewers and 8.8 million viewers per episode through live-plus-35-day multiplatform viewing. Those figures belong to the 2023–24 broadcast season; they are not current Netflix viewership numbers or evidence of a present-day streaming ranking. The figures are reported in CBS Entertainment’s official S.W.A.T. information.
Is season 8 really the last season of S.W.A.T.?
Yes, season 8 is the last season of the original S.W.A.T. series on CBS. CBS formally described the May 16, 2025 event as the series finale, and the network canceled the show after the eighth season. Viewers should therefore search for season 8 rather than expect a CBS season 9.
Can you buy S.W.A.T. on DVD?
Season-level S.W.A.T. DVDs exist, but the supplied evidence does not confirm a season 8 DVD or a complete-series box set. Sony’s official home-entertainment catalog documents DVD availability for individual seasons, including S.W.A.T. season 4. Physical media may be the better choice for viewers who want offline access or ownership rather than temporary access through a subscription catalog.
For shopping purposes, look for a S.W.A.T. TV series DVD or a specific season DVD, and check the actual season number, region compatibility, seller, and included episodes before buying. Do not assume that a listing for an older season is a season 8 release or a complete-series edition. Digital purchase listings can also change; current availability aggregators identify options such as Amazon Video, but prices and inventory should be checked immediately before purchase. JustWatch’s U.S. availability listing is useful for checking current streaming and purchase paths, although aggregator results can change as rights change.
What happened to Paramount+ availability?
Paramount+ was an official outlet for S.W.A.T. season 8 during the original CBS broadcast window. CBS’s season 8 materials described streaming access through Paramount+ alongside the broadcast rollout. That historical availability should not be converted into a claim that Paramount+ currently carries the complete eight-season series after the finale.
The distinction matters because a show can be available on a service while new episodes are airing and later move to a different catalog home. For a post-finale viewer, Netflix is the more clearly supported current answer in the supplied official sources; Paramount+ should be checked directly for the viewer’s country and subscription tier before being chosen specifically for S.W.A.T.
Is the S.W.A.T. franchise continuing?
The original series has ended, but Sony lists a future spinoff called S.W.A.T. Exiles. Sony describes the spinoff as a story in which Hondo is pulled from forced retirement to lead a new experimental unit, with the show listed as coming to STARZ on September 25, 2026. The date is future-facing relative to the supplied research timestamp of August 14, 2026, so viewers should recheck the official S.W.A.T. Exiles page for any schedule or platform change.
Rank #4
S.W.A.T. Exiles is not season 9 of the CBS series. It is a separate continuation of the franchise, while the original S.W.A.T. story concludes with season 8.
