Marvel’s story premise is Earth’s defense against Galactus—not a plot fully spelled out by the trailer.
What does the trailer reveal about Silver Surfer?
Walt Disney Studios UK announced an all-new trailer and poster on April 16, 2025, describing the trailer as showcasing Silver Surfer, H.E.R.B.I.E., and the film’s 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic atmosphere. The announcement identifies Julia Garner as Silver Surfer and calls the character Galactus’s herald.
That framing connects Silver Surfer directly to the threat facing the team. Disney’s synopsis says the Fantastic Four must defend Earth from Galactus and his herald, while also balancing their heroic roles with their family bond. The trailer announcement establishes the character and the conflict; it should not be mistaken for a complete account of the film’s plot.
How the trailer fits the film’s premise
The Fantastic Four: First Steps centers on Marvel’s First Family: Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Ralph Ineson plays Galactus, with Matt Shakman directing.
