Mindy Cohn says a proposed Facts of Life revival collapsed after one cast member allegedly pursued a separate spinoff deal. In a July 24, 2024 interview, Cohn said the group had hired a writer and met with Norman Lear, but described the project as “very dead.” She did not identify the cast member, and the alleged side deal has not been independently verified.
What Mindy Cohn says happened
Cohn discussed the revival during her appearance on Jeff Lewis Live, in an interview excerpt published by SiriusXM on July 24, 2024. She said the idea grew out of the response to ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience special, which aired in December 2021 and reunited the principal women from the original sitcom.

According to Cohn, Lear contacted the cast after the special. The women considered a continuation, hired a writer, met over Zoom during the COVID-19 period and held meetings with Lear. Those steps indicate early development discussions, not a commissioned, scheduled or filmed series.
Cohn’s central allegation was: “One of them went behind our backs and tried to make a separate deal for a spinoff just for herself and devastated the rest of us.” She said the dispute damaged what she characterized as a decades-long friendship and sisterhood, and that not everyone wanted to move past it.

Why the revival was said to have stalled
Cohn attributed the collapse to the alleged attempt to negotiate a solo spinoff rather than the group revival. She later called the proposed project “dead” and “very dead.” That is her account of the outcome, not an announcement from ABC, Lear’s representatives or a production company.
The TVLine report published the same day likewise described discussions about a revival and noted Cohn’s claim. The Los Angeles Times reported the allegation and the project’s reported demise, while Entertainment Tonight also covered Cohn’s comments. None of those reports independently establishes that a separate deal was actually pursued.

Which cast member did Cohn mean?
Cohn did not name the person. Contemporary coverage identifies the possible actresses only as Kim Fields, Nancy McKeon or Lisa Whelchel because they were the other central women associated with the reunion discussions. Cohn’s remarks about what viewers might infer from Instagram are not confirmation of anyone’s identity, and no responsible account can select one of those actors based on the interview alone.
TVLine said it contacted representatives for McKeon, Fields and Whelchel. The Los Angeles Times reported that Whelchel’s representative did not immediately respond. The available reports do not include a statement from an identified accused cast member confirming or disputing Cohn’s allegation.

What was actually in development?
| Stage | What the reporting establishes |
|---|---|
| Live in Front of a Studio Audience | ABC’s reunion-style special aired in December 2021 and received a response that, according to Cohn, encouraged further conversations. |
| Revival discussions | Cohn says Lear contacted the women, a writer was hired, the cast met on Zoom and they met with Lear. |
| Official series | No source establishes a commissioned, scheduled or filmed Facts of Life revival. |
| Separate spinoff | Cohn alleged that one cast member sought a solo deal; the reviewed reporting does not independently verify that negotiation. |
Is the revival still happening?
Cohn’s July 2024 description was that the revival was “very dead.” That is the latest status contained in the cited coverage, and it should be dated rather than presented as a verified production update for 2026. The reports establish that talks occurred and that Cohn believed the dispute ended them; they do not document a later cancellation notice, a new deal or a revived production.
What can be stated with confidence
- The 2021 special preceded conversations about continuing the Facts of Life story.
- Cohn says the group reached the writer-and-meetings stage with Lear involved.
- Her explanation for the breakdown is an allegation about an unnamed cast member’s proposed separate spinoff.
- The person was not publicly identified in the cited interview or contemporaneous reports.
- No released or officially commissioned revival is established by these sources.
Why the wording matters
Calling a cast member “greedy” or naming one of the actresses as the alleged negotiator would go beyond the evidence. The verifiable record is Cohn’s interview statement, the reported development conversations and the absence of independent confirmation. Until an identified participant or official documentation provides more detail, the allegation remains Cohn’s account of why a promising reunion did not proceed.
