No. Eddie Diaz’s move to Texas in 9-1-1 Season 8 was a story about reconnecting with his son Christopher, not Ryan Guzman leaving the series. Guzman said in March 2025 that the end goal was to get Eddie back to the 118, though he did not know when that might happen. ABC’s current series listing includes Guzman as Eddie in Season 9, so Eddie remained part of the show.
Why Eddie moved to Texas
After Christopher moved to El Paso, Eddie began rethinking what mattered most to him. In Season 8, Episode 8, he started looking at homes there. Showrunner and co-creator Tim Minear told TheWrap on November 21, 2024 that Eddie’s feeling that he might have to leave everything behind to reconnect with his son was real.
That choice led Eddie to leave Los Angeles for Texas in Episode 10. Ryan Guzman, who plays Eddie, put the character’s priorities plainly in a March 6, 2025 Parade interview: “The 118 is near and dear to Eddie. But when it comes to the 118 or Christopher, it’s Christopher all the way.”
Did Ryan Guzman leave 9-1-1?
No. The Texas move did not mean Guzman was leaving the series. In a March 13, 2025 interview with TheWrap, Guzman said, “We will be in Texas for a bit. The end goal is to get Eddie back to the 118, but we’ll see what happens.” He also said he did not know the timeframe for Eddie’s return.

The distinction matters: Eddie could be away from the Los Angeles firehouse without disappearing from the show. Season 8 continued to follow his life in Texas. In its March 28, 2025 coverage of Episode 12, TV Guide reported that Eddie could not get a job at the local fire department because of a hiring freeze, became a rideshare driver, and took an important step toward making things right with Christopher.

No. Guzman described returning to the 118 as the end goal, not a set date or certainty. A week earlier, Minear told TVLine on March 7, 2025: “The question is will he come back? I’m not promising that he will.” Those comments reflected uncertainty at the time; they should not be mistaken for evidence that Guzman had left the series.

ABC’s official 9-1-1 page now lists Season 9 and Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz, with Eddie included in Season 9 episode summaries such as “Handle With Care” and “Mother’s Boy.” That establishes that Eddie remained in the series beyond the Texas move, while the earlier interviews distinguish his ongoing role from the question of when he would return to the 118.
