The Barstools were named as the support act. A preview published by PerthNow on 9 October 2025 also covered the anniversary booking.
Why did the show mark 35 years?
The Chevelles trace their beginnings to the summer of 1989–90, when the band emerged from Perth’s music scene. The event announcement and PerthNow connect that scene with The Kryptonics, The Stems, The Freuds and The Diehards.

The band’s event announcement describes The Chevelles as Western Australian surf, punk and garage specialists. It says they had released five albums and 23 releases and completed 16 overseas tours across parts of Europe, South America and the United States. PerthNow also reports 16 overseas tours, but does not give the same album and release totals, so those precise counts are best understood as figures from the announcement.
What milestones were highlighted in the band’s history?
PerthNow and the event announcement report that The Chevelles received high rotation on triple j and reached the Top 30 in European charts during the 1990s. They also cite appearances at international outdoor festivals with reported capacities of 30,000 in the 2000s. That figure describes venue capacity, not the number of people who watched the band.

The event announcement says The Chevelles signed a worldwide deal with Wicked Cool Records in 2008. Label founder Little Steven Van Zandt summed up the band’s sound as: “The Who meets the Ramones meets the Easybeats meets Beach Blanket Bingo!”
In the same announcement, vocalist and guitarist Duane Smith attributed more than 1,200 live shows to the group. That is Smith’s account, rather than an independently audited tally. He also described how the band’s experiences became material for its music: the journey’s heartbreaks and joys became stories, lyrics and songs, and ultimately the “sweat stains on a ‘69 Telecaster.”

Who was in the anniversary-era lineup?
- Jeff Halley: bass and co-founder.
- Duane Smith: vocals, guitar and co-founder.
- Adrian Allen: guitar; he joined in 1991.
- Dave Shaw: drums. He first joined in 1998, left in 2007 and returned in 2023.
Halley described the band’s outlook this way: “We’re louder, older, meaner,” … “and still having fun.” Smith reflected on the group’s longevity: “The gravity of hanging out, creating, and playing music with my best mates around the world for 35 years is not lost on me.” On the force of a live performance, he said: “There is something quite glorious in tearing up a stage with voltage and volume and melody that connects everyone in an almost primal way.”
