The watch has been described as the most expensive Rolex offered to the public, but that historical retail claim is different from an auction record or what the watch—and Ronaldo’s example—might be worth today.
Which Rolex did Ronaldo wear?
Time+Tide reported on 6 January 2020 that Ronaldo wore the Rolex GMT-Master II Ice at the 14th Dubai International Sports Conference in late 2019. The publication identified it as reference 116769TBR and described it as 18-karat white gold set with 30 carats of diamonds. The sighting and diamond total are reported by Time+Tide; they should not be mistaken for a Rolex statement or a confirmation from Ronaldo. Time+Tide’s report.
What does “most expensive Rolex ever made” mean?
The headline’s superlative refers to the GMT-Master II Ice as a Rolex that was offered to the public at an exceptionally high retail price. It is a historical public-offering description, not proof that this is the highest-priced Rolex ever sold, nor a current price guide. The available report does not establish the original price Ronaldo paid.
What is the documented auction result?
Sotheby’s records a sale of a Rolex GMT-Master II reference 116769TBR for $444,500 at its New York Watch Auction XVIII in June 2023. That figure is the result for one auction lot on that date. It is not a current valuation, an asking price, or evidence of the value of Ronaldo’s own watch. Sotheby’s lot listing.

Is it the Rolex with the ice-blue Daytona dial?
No. The watch attributed to Ronaldo is the diamond-set GMT-Master II Ice, reference 116769TBR. Rolex’s platinum Cosmograph Daytona reference 116506 is a different model; its ice-blue dial can cause confusion, but it is not the watch identified in the Dubai sighting.
