The Chelsea Detective Season 3 is a four-part Acorn TV mystery season built from feature-length episodes. A Christmas Special opens the run, while DI Max Arnold and DS Layla Walsh investigate killings that expose the darker side of affluent Chelsea. Max’s strained marriage also remains an important part of the story.
When did The Chelsea Detective Season 3 come out?
AMC Global Media announced that Season 3 returned to Acorn TV on Monday, April 7, 2025, in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The remaining episodes followed weekly on Mondays.

- Frances Barber returns as Aunt Olivia.
What is Season 3 about?
The new cases take Max and Layla across very different corners of London. The investigations include:

- An ex-soldier whose body is discovered in an allotment.
- The brutal murder of an antiques dealer.
- A climate scientist found dead in a stolen car.
The cases move from Thames foreshore mudlarks to the US Embassy, using Chelsea’s polished appearance as a contrast to the crimes beneath it. Acorn TV’s official premise describes the borough as beautiful and affluent-looking but with “a dark underside of deception, violence, greed-and murder,” where appearances repeatedly mislead.
Max and Astrid’s relationship
Max’s personal life remains unsettled. He and Astrid try couples therapy to revive their relationship and understand where their marriage failed, giving the season a continuing emotional storyline alongside its largely case-driven mysteries.

Yes. Acorn TV hosts the official Season 3 trailer from its Series 3 page. The trailer listing is dated April 16, 2025 and repeats the April 7 premiere date. It is the best official preview of the season’s cases, international settings and Max’s continuing personal troubles.
