The Blues Brothers’ The Lost Recordings is a 13-song collection of previously unreleased live performances, presented alongside Z2 Comics’ graphic novel The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake. The publisher describes a royal-blue vinyl edition packaged with the book, while other listings identify separate yellow-vinyl and digital editions; those formats and dates should not be conflated.
What are The Lost Recordings?
Z2 Comics describes The Lost Recordings as 13 previously unreleased live performances featuring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd with Blues Brothers band members. The publisher says the recordings were uncovered by the late Judy Belushi Pisano. Among the named tracks are unheard versions of “Hey Bartender,” “Rubber Biscuit,” and “Green Onions.” Z2 Comics’ December 3, 2025 announcement also names Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Steve Cropper, Donald Dunn, Paul Shaffer, Lou Marini, Tom Malone, Alan Rubin, Steve Jordan, and Tom Scott among the musicians.
How does the album connect to the graphic novel?
The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake is an original graphic-novel sequel to the 1980 film. Z2 says the story takes place ten years later: Jake has disappeared from prison, and a new group searches for him and the Briefcase Full of Blues. Familiar characters and adversaries appear along the way.
The publisher developed the book with the Aykroyd and Belushi families and estate. Stella Aykroyd, Luke Pisano, and James Werner are credited as writers, with Felipe Sobriero as artist. Dan Aykroyd provided editorial oversight and wrote the foreword. In the publisher’s announcement, Aykroyd said: “In this wonderful form of printed artistic expression we get to continue the legend of Jake and Elwood and pass it forward in ways that film can’t.”
