The biggest movie trailers and release dates in 2024 are best judged by separate measures: Deadpool & Wolverine had the strongest documented launch at 365 million global views in 24 hours, while Inside Out 2 led the cited worldwide box-office ranking at $1,698,863,816. The major U.S./Canada theatrical calendar ran from March 1 through December 20.
There is no single authoritative annual ranking that measures every 2024 trailer on the same basis. The clearest picture comes from combining documented first-24-hour trailer launches, final worldwide box office, and U.S./Canada theatrical release dates while keeping trailer attention, ticket sales, and viewing availability separate.
Key takeaways
- Deadpool & Wolverine had the strongest documented movie-trailer launch of 2024, with 365 million global views in its first 24 hours according to Guinness World Records (2024).
- Moana 2 delivered Disney’s biggest animated trailer launch at the time, with 178 million views in 24 hours according to The Walt Disney Company (2024).
- Inside Out 2 led the cited 2024 worldwide box-office ranking with $1,698,863,816, ahead of Deadpool & Wolverine and Moana 2.
- The major U.S./Canada theatrical release calendar ran from Dune: Part Two on March 1, 2024, to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on December 20, 2024.
- Trailer views, worldwide box office, franchise recognition, audience, and release timing measure different kinds of success; no single statistic identifies every “biggest” film.
What does “biggest” mean for the movie trailers and release dates in 2024?
“Biggest” needs to be separated into trailer reach, commercial performance, franchise importance, audience appeal, and theatrical timing. There is no single authoritative cross-studio table that ranks every 2024 trailer using the same first-24-hour measurement.
The most defensible comparison uses the strongest documented trailer-launch figures alongside final worldwide box office and U.S./Canada theatrical dates. The comparison below keeps those measures separate rather than treating trailer views as a prediction of ticket sales.

Which 2024 movie trailer got the most views?
Deadpool & Wolverine had the most-viewed documented movie trailer launch of 2024, with 365 million global views in 24 hours. Guinness World Records lists the figure as the record for the most-viewed movie trailer in 24 hours, although the figure is a cross-platform total rather than a standard YouTube-only view count.
Marvel debuted the first Deadpool & Wolverine teaser during the Big Game on February 11, 2024, according to Marvel’s official announcement. The launch benefited from the unusual combination of two established Marvel characters, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool identity, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine return, and a highly visible live-event debut. Marvel released another official trailer on April 22, reinforcing the film’s event-movie positioning before its July theatrical opening.
The 365-million figure should not be compared as though every studio used an identical reporting method. Guinness describes the record as a global 24-hour trailer total, while ordinary video-platform pages may display only one platform’s views. The figure establishes a record launch, not a complete ranking of every trailer released in 2024.
How did Moana 2 compare with Deadpool & Wolverine?
Moana 2 had the second major documented 24-hour trailer figure in this comparison, with 178 million views. The Walt Disney Company described the result as the biggest animated trailer launch in Disney history at the time of its May 30, 2024 announcement.

| Deadpool & Wolverine | 365 million global views | Guinness World Records’ most-viewed movie-trailer-in-24-hours record; cross-platform total. | July 26, 2024 |
| Moana 2 | 178 million views | Disney-reported cross-platform total and Disney’s biggest animated trailer launch at the time. | November 27, 2024 |
Disney attributed the attention around Moana 2 to the continuing popularity of Moana and Maui. The sequel also combined a familiar musical identity with a holiday theatrical position. Bob Iger, Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, said, “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise.” The company’s official trailer-launch announcement reported both the quote and the 178-million-view figure.
No complete, consistent, authoritative cross-studio table was established for the first 24 hours of every 2024 trailer. For that reason, films such as Inside Out 2, Wicked, Dune: Part Two, Despicable Me 4, Mufasa: The Lion King, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 are described as major releases or box-office performers rather than assigned unsupported trailer-view rankings.

Which films were the biggest 2024 releases by worldwide box office?
Inside Out 2 was the top film in the cited worldwide 2024 ranking. According to Box Office Mojo (2025), the following ten films led its 2024 worldwide chart. The amounts below are worldwide totals, not U.S./Canada totals.
| Worldwide rank | Film | Worldwide total | Why it mattered in 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Inside Out 2 | $1,698,863,816 | Pixar sequel and the cited worldwide leader. |
| 2 | Deadpool & Wolverine | $1,338,073,645 | Marvel team-up and the strongest documented trailer-launch event. |
| 3 | Moana 2 | $1,059,242,164 | Disney animated sequel and holiday-season family release. |
| 4 | Despicable Me 4 | $972,021,410 | Major animated franchise performer. |
| 5 | Wicked | $763,963,597 | High-profile fantasy musical based on a long-established stage property. |
| 6 | Mufasa: The Lion King | $722,631,756 | Large-scale Disney family release and a top-six worldwide performer. |
| 7 | Dune: Part Two | $714,844,358 | Science-fiction franchise release built around spectacle and theatrical scale. |
| 8 | Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire | $572,050,016 | Monster-franchise spectacle and a top-eight worldwide release. |
| 9 | Kung Fu Panda 4 | $547,946,428 | Established animated franchise with a top-ten worldwide result. |
| 10 | Sonic the Hedgehog 3 | $492,162,604 | Major video-game adaptation and the final selected release of the year. |
The worldwide ranking shows why trailer popularity and theatrical performance should not be treated as interchangeable. Deadpool & Wolverine led the documented trailer-launch comparison, but Inside Out 2 finished first in worldwide box office. Moana 2 was notable on both measures, ranking third worldwide while setting Disney’s animated trailer-launch record at the time.

The following dates are U.S./Canada theatrical release dates for the major 2024 films most relevant to the trailer, franchise, and box-office discussion. The broad calendar is supported by The Numbers’ 2024 release schedule; Marvel’s official film page provides the exact Deadpool & Wolverine date.
| Film | U.S./Canada theatrical release date | Why the date mattered |
|---|---|---|
| Dune: Part Two | March 1, 2024 | Opened the selected major-release calendar and launched a major science-fiction franchise event. |
| Inside Out 2 | June 14, 2024 | Pixar sequel that became the cited worldwide box-office leader. |

| Sonic the Hedgehog 3 | December 20, 2024 | Major game adaptation that closed the selected calendar and ranked tenth worldwide. |
Are these 2024 movie release dates theatrical or streaming dates?
These are theatrical release dates in the United States and Canada, not digital-rental, streaming, or physical-media dates. A film can have a theatrical opening in one territory and a different digital or subscription date elsewhere, so a release-date calendar should not be used as a current watch-availability guide.
The theatrical timing also helps explain the year’s competitive shape. Dune: Part Two arrived in March as a spectacle-driven science-fiction release. Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 occupied major summer family-film positions. Deadpool & Wolverine opened in late July, while Wicked and Moana 2 reached theaters during the Thanksgiving and holiday corridor. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 used a December 20 opening to target the Christmas period.
Why were the biggest trailer events and biggest box-office films not exactly the same?
Trailer reach measures immediate attention, while box office measures paid theatrical admissions over a film’s run. Franchise strength, audience size, release season, marketing visibility, and the type of audience likely to see a film in theaters can produce different leaders on each list.

Deadpool & Wolverine: the clearest trailer event
Deadpool & Wolverine combined a superhero-universe connection with a highly recognizable character pairing. The first teaser’s Big Game debut gave the film a major live-event launch, and the 365-million global 24-hour figure made it the strongest documented trailer event in this article. The film then opened on July 26, 2024 and finished second in the cited worldwide ranking with $1,338,073,645.
Moana 2: the strongest animated trailer launch
Moana 2 appealed to a family audience through familiar characters, Disney brand recognition, and a recognizable musical world. Its November 27 theatrical opening placed it directly in the holiday family-film period. The 178-million reported trailer total and $1,059,242,164 worldwide finish make Moana 2 one of the clearest examples of trailer attention and theatrical performance reinforcing each other, while still using different measurements.
Inside Out 2: the box-office leader
Inside Out 2 extended Pixar’s emotional premise into Riley’s adolescence. Disney’s release material specifically highlighted the arrival of Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment alongside the returning emotions. The film opened on June 14, 2024 and led the cited worldwide ranking with $1,698,863,816.
The film’s later streaming result is a separate measurement. According to The Walt Disney Company (2024), Inside Out 2 generated 30.5 million global Disney+ views in five days. Disney defined those views as total stream time divided by the film’s runtime, so the Disney+ figure should not be added to theatrical admissions or compared directly with trailer views.

Wicked and Dune: Part Two: theatrical scale through different audiences
Wicked drew on a long-established stage property, recognizable songs, and familiar characters. Its November 22 opening gave it a prominent holiday-season position, and the film ranked fifth worldwide in the cited 2024 chart with $763,963,597.
Dune: Part Two represented a different kind of event film. Its science-fiction franchise, large-scale production, premium-format appeal, and March 1 opening made theatrical presentation central to its identity. The film ranked seventh worldwide with $714,844,358.

Why the remaining top-ten films matter
Despicable Me 4, Mufasa: The Lion King, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 show that the 2024 blockbuster market was not limited to superhero films. The four films represented animated family entertainment, a Disney legacy property, monster-franchise spectacle, and a video-game adaptation respectively. Their worldwide rankings were fourth, sixth, eighth, and tenth, but comparable first-24-hour trailer figures were not established in the available research.

Where can you watch the biggest 2024 movies now?
Current viewing availability varies by title, country, subscription service, rental store, edition, and date, so there is no single reliable “watch now” answer for every major 2024 film. Theatrical dates should be checked separately from digital purchase, rental, subscription streaming, and physical-media availability.
Recommended Free Tools
Marvel’s official Deadpool & Wolverine film page identifies 4K UHD, Blu-ray, digital, and Disney+ availability as home-entertainment paths. Those formats do not guarantee that a specific edition is currently in stock or available in every territory. Readers searching for where to watch Deadpool & Wolverine should verify the current service, country, subscription requirement, rental price, and release edition before relying on a listing.
Disney’s streaming announcement provides a useful historical benchmark for Inside Out 2: the company reported 30.5 million global Disney+ views in five days in 2024. A current streaming or rental listing still needs title-by-title and territory-by-territory verification because service availability and commercial terms change.
What should readers remember about the 2024 movie rankings?
The clearest answer depends on the question. For the biggest documented trailer launch, the answer is Deadpool & Wolverine. For Disney’s biggest animated trailer launch at the time, the answer is Moana 2. For the highest worldwide box office in the cited 2024 ranking, the answer is Inside Out 2. For the selected U.S./Canada theatrical calendar, the major dates stretch from Dune: Part Two on March 1 to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on December 20.
