This is a dated U.S. viewing guide for November 21–28, 2025—not a claim about what Netflix streams today. Netflix’s own weekend and weekly recommendations point to two standout new films, a compact documentary, and two thriller choices. The same guide also highlights two series for viewers willing to trade a movie for a longer binge.
Quick picks by time and mood
| Title | Format | Best for | Netflix’s dated positioning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train Dreams | Film | A reflective, literary historical drama | New-release weekend pick |
| ONE SHOT with Ed Sheeran | Film | A music-led performance watch | New-release weekend pick |
| Martha | Documentary film | One-night nonfiction viewing | Short-session choice |
| Blue Beetle | Film | A thriller-leaning superhero option | Listed as streaming during the week |
| Zodiac | Film | A darker investigative thriller | Listed as streaming during the week |
| America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys | Eight-part docuseries | A full-day sports-history binge | Weekend alternative, not a movie |
| Gossip Girl | Six-season series | A whole-weekend binge | Weekend alternative, not a movie |
The practical choice is simple: pick by available time first, then by format and mood. If you want a self-contained movie, stay with the first five entries; the last two are clearly marked series alternatives.

The best film choices
Train Dreams: for a quiet, literary period drama
Netflix describes Clint Bentley’s Train Dreams as a portrait of Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker in early-twentieth-century America, played by Joel Edgerton. Felicity Jones plays his wife. The film is based on Denis Johnson’s novella, making it the clearest choice here for viewers who like literary adaptations and historical settings.
Expect a contemplative character study rather than a fast-moving thriller. Its appeal is the long view of one working life and the atmosphere of an earlier America. The novella is an optional companion, not required preparation for the film.

ONE SHOT with Ed Sheeran: for performance over plot
ONE SHOT with Ed Sheeran follows Ed Sheeran through New York City as he meets strangers and performs. Netflix emphasizes that it was filmed in a single take. That format makes the film a strong fit when you want immediacy, movement and live music instead of a conventional fictional storyline.
Choose it for a social or music-centered night, especially if the technical idea of one continuous performance is part of the attraction.

Martha: the focused documentary night
R.J. Cutler’s 2024 documentary Martha tells Martha Stewart’s life and career in her own words, according to Netflix’s recommendation page. Netflix presents it as a one-night option: a compact way to spend an evening with a major media and lifestyle figure without committing to a multi-part series.
It works best when you want biographical nonfiction with a recognizable central subject and a straightforward, self-contained runtime.

Blue Beetle: a superhero-thriller option
Netflix’s November 17 weekly guide listed Blue Beetle among the thriller choices available during that publication window. It is the pick for viewers who want a more conventional studio genre movie rather than a documentary, concert film or period drama.
Zodiac: the darker investigation
The same weekly guide listed Zodiac as another thriller option. Its investigative focus makes it the natural choice of the two dated thriller listings for a more serious, crime-centered evening.

If you are open to series
America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys
Netflix’s weekend guide recommends Chapman and Maclain Way’s eight-part docuseries as a full-day watch. It traces the Dallas Cowboys’ 1990s run through accounts from people involved, beginning with Jerry Jones’s 1989 purchase of the franchise.
Because it has eight episodes, it is not a movie substitute for a single sitting. Choose it when sports history, franchise politics and a longer documentary arc sound better than a standalone film.

Gossip Girl
Netflix also suggests Gossip Girl for a whole-weekend binge, calling attention to its Thanksgiving episodes and six-season run. It belongs in this guide only as a clearly labeled series alternative: the commitment is fundamentally different from selecting one film.
How to choose for November 21–28, 2025
- Have one evening? Pick Martha for documentary storytelling, ONE SHOT with Ed Sheeran for music and performance, or Train Dreams for a measured historical drama.
- Want a conventional thriller? The dated weekly listing points to Blue Beetle and Zodiac; choose the former for superhero energy and the latter for a darker investigation.
- Have a full day? Start America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, the eight-part sports docuseries.
- Have the entire weekend? Gossip Girl is the long-form binge, with Thanksgiving episodes specifically highlighted by Netflix.
- Need a film, not a series? Exclude the two binge recommendations and use the film table above.
Availability note
Every availability statement in this guide is tied to Netflix’s U.S.-oriented pages published November 17 and November 21, 2025. Those pages document what Netflix promoted or said was streaming in that window; they do not verify availability in September 2026 or in every country. Check Netflix in your location before planning a watch, especially for the two weekly thriller listings.
The Bottom Line
For a single film during the November 21–28, 2025 Netflix window, start with Train Dreams for literary historical drama, ONE SHOT with Ed Sheeran for a one-take music experience, or Martha for a compact documentary. Treat America’s Team and Gossip Girl as clearly labeled series choices, not movies, and remember that the availability evidence is historical and U.S.-oriented.
