The best movies on Hulu right now, using the U.S. September 2024 catalog snapshot, are The Favourite for prestige drama, Boy Kills World for new action, Freaky Friday for family nostalgia, Jennifer’s Body for horror-comedy, Us for elevated horror, and Sicario for a tense crime thriller.
This is a historical guide to films reported as available, arriving, or featured on Hulu in the United States during September 2024. Hulu’s catalog changes by date and region, so the recommendations do not confirm that these titles remain available today.
Key takeaways
- The Favourite is the strongest prestige pick, while Boy Kills World is the most recent action choice in this September 2024 Hulu snapshot.
- Freaky Friday and The Lizzie McGuire Movie are the best family-nostalgia options, although the full September catalog was not necessarily available for the entire month.
- Jennifer’s Body, Us, and Get Out cover horror-comedy, symbolic family horror, and social-psychological horror.
- Sicario was reported as arriving on Hulu on September 1, 2024, while Jennifer’s Body was reported among the films scheduled to leave on September 30.
- Hulu availability varies by date and region, so this article is a historical U.S. guide to September 2024 rather than a claim about Hulu’s current catalog.

What should you watch first?
Start with The Favourite if you want the most awards-oriented choice. Yorgos Lanthimos’s historical comedy-drama turns the rivalry among Queen Anne, Sarah Churchill, and Abigail Masham into something strange, seductive, funny, and unsettling. Olivia Colman plays Queen Anne, Rachel Weisz plays Sarah Churchill, and Emma Stone plays Abigail Masham; Colman won the Best Actress Oscar for the film. TheWrap included The Favourite among its September 2024 Hulu recommendations.
Choose Boy Kills World for the newest-feeling action pick. Bill Skarsgård plays Boy, a deaf and mute fighter whose inner narration is supplied by H. Jon Benjamin. Boy seeks revenge against the totalitarian dynasty responsible for murdering his family, making the film a vibrant, action-heavy dystopian revenge story for viewers who missed it in theaters. The film is violent and stylized rather than family-friendly.
Choose Babes for an adult friendship comedy. Ilana Glazer plays Eden, who becomes pregnant after a one-night stand and relies on her childhood best friend, played by Michelle Buteau. Pamela Adlon made her feature-directing debut after directing episodes of Better Things. Babes is better understood as a candid friendship-and-parenthood comedy than as a conventional romantic comedy.
Which recent movies were Hulu highlights in September 2024?
The strongest recent-film alternatives were Ferrari, BlackBerry, The Royal Hotel, Boy Kills World, and Babes. The group spans biographical drama, business drama, social thriller, action, and comedy rather than one single style.
| Film | Release year | Best for | Premise and viewing note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boy Kills World | 2024 | Stylized action | A deaf and mute fighter takes on the dynasty that killed his family; expect intense violence. |
| Babes | 2024 | Friendship comedy | A pregnancy tests a lifelong friendship; adult humor and parenthood are central. |
| Ferrari | 2023 | Biographical drama | Enzo Ferrari faces financial pressure, marital conflict, and the Mille Miglia race, with Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz in leading roles. |
| BlackBerry | 2023 | Technology and business drama | A dramatization of the company and the people behind the signature phone, featuring Glenn Howerton in a central performance. |
| The Royal Hotel | 2023 | Short, slow-burn tension | Two American travelers take jobs at a remote Australian bar and encounter an escalating atmosphere of misogyny. |
Ferrari, BlackBerry, and The Royal Hotel were among the films recommended by Digital Trends for Hulu over Labor Day 2024. The Royal Hotel is particularly useful when you want a contained thriller rather than an expansive action film, but its social subject matter is deliberately uncomfortable.

Which classic or nostalgia movies are good on Hulu?
Freaky Friday is the best all-ages nostalgia choice. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan play a mother and daughter who switch bodies and must confront the pressures each has been carrying. Their comic chemistry is the main attraction. The film was also timely in September 2024 because a sequel reunion was anticipated, but that context does not mean a sequel was already available on Hulu.
The Lizzie McGuire Movie is the best Disney Channel throwback. Hilary Duff plays Lizzie, who travels to Rome and becomes involved in a pop-star identity mix-up. The film functions as a de facto finale for the original Disney Channel series. Other Disney favorites, including High School Musical, Camp Rock, and Hannah Montana The Movie, were also reported as heading to Hulu during the month.
For broader early-September nostalgia, the reported September 1 additions also included 27 Dresses, The Bob’s Burgers Movie, Date Night, Dead Poets Society, Mean Girls (2004), and Superbad. The September 2024 Hulu schedule reported by Tom’s Guide and the contemporary arrival coverage should be treated as dated schedule reporting, not a permanent catalog list.
What are the best horror movies on Hulu?
Choose Jennifer’s Body for horror with satire and friendship conflict. Written by Diablo Cody and directed by Karyn Kusama, the film follows a demonically possessed Megan Fox as Jennifer, while Amanda Seyfried plays her best friend, Needy. The film’s reputation was substantially reassessed over time, and its mix of supernatural violence, dark humor, and female friendship makes it a better fit for viewers who want more than straightforward scares.
Choose Us for symbolic, family-centered horror. Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out follows Adelaide Wilson and her family as violent doppelgängers attack their beach house. Lupita Nyong’o’s dual performance and Peele’s control of genre make Us a strong choice for viewers who want symbolism alongside survival-horror stakes. Digital Trends included Us in its early-September Hulu recommendations, while Tom’s Guide also identified it as a September Hulu pick.

Choose Get Out for compact social-psychological horror. Jordan Peele’s film follows a Black man visiting his white girlfriend’s parents and gradually suspecting that something is deeply wrong. The high-concept setup, escalating unease, and social tension make Get Out a good choice when you want a focused horror film rather than a sprawling mythology. Digital Trends recommended Get Out among its early-September Hulu films.
Which Hulu crime thriller should you watch?
Sicario is the pick for morally ambiguous crime drama. Emily Blunt plays FBI agent Kate Macer, who joins a government task force targeting a Mexican drug cartel and confronts methods that challenge ordinary ideas of legality and justice. The film is not a light thriller: viewers should expect drug-war violence, brutality, and sustained moral unease.
Sicario was reported as beginning its Hulu availability on September 1, 2024. The date appears in Tom’s Guide’s September Hulu schedule coverage, while the reported September 1 additions also included several other notable titles such as Freaky Friday, Jennifer’s Body, and Us.
Which movies were new or arriving on Hulu in September 2024?
September 2024 Hulu coverage mixed new arrivals with existing catalog recommendations, so “new” does not mean every film was released in 2024. Recent titles included Boy Kills World and Babes from 2024, alongside 2023 films such as Ferrari, BlackBerry, and The Royal Hotel. Established titles included The Favourite, Freaky Friday, Jennifer’s Body, Us, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and Sicario.
For a platform-level reference point, Hulu’s official May 16, 2024 guide said its shortlist consisted of the “most-streamed titles by new Hulu subscribers within the last year.” That description is not a numerical ranking for September and does not prove that any particular film was the most-watched title. The official Hulu movie guide is therefore useful context, not evidence of a September 2024 viewing-count leaderboard.

Which movies were leaving Hulu in September 2024?
Availability urgency mattered because some titles were scheduled to depart before the end of the month. The reported schedule listed The Estate for September 4, Call Jane for September 11, and Theater Camp for September 13. Numerous other titles were listed for September 30, including V/H/S, V/H/S 2, V/H/S: Viral, I Am Number Four, and Jennifer’s Body.

The departure dates come from ComicBook.com’s September 2024 Hulu departure schedule. Schedule reports can differ in scope and detail, so “reported to leave” is more accurate than treating every listed date as a guaranteed account-level cutoff.
How should you choose among these Hulu movies?
Use five practical filters rather than looking for one objective best movie:
- Mood: Pick historical intrigue with The Favourite, dystopian action with Boy Kills World, friendship comedy with Babes, family nostalgia with Freaky Friday, horror-comedy with Jennifer’s Body, elevated horror with Us, crime tension with Sicario, biographical drama with Ferrari, business drama with BlackBerry, or a slow-burn thriller with The Royal Hotel.
- Recency: Choose the 2023–2024 films if you want newer releases; choose the established titles if you want familiar catalog comfort or a film with a longer critical reputation.
- Viewing commitment: The Royal Hotel is the contained option identified as a 90-minute thriller. Do not assume a runtime for the other recommendations from this guide.
- Audience: Family nostalgia and adult horror are not interchangeable. Check the content notes for drug-war violence, sexual politics, misogyny, supernatural violence, and bleak psychological material.
- Urgency: If a title appears on a dated departure list, watch it before the reported cutoff rather than saving it for the end of the month.
Does Hulu availability stay the same throughout September?
No. Hulu availability can change during the month, and availability also varies by geography. September 2024 coverage documented both September 1 arrivals and departures on September 4, September 11, September 13, and September 30, so a title’s appearance in a September recommendation list does not establish that the title was streamable for all 30 days.
Before republishing this as a current Hulu guide, recheck each title in the relevant country’s Hulu catalog. This article preserves the U.S. September 2024 snapshot and does not claim that the listed movies are still available on Hulu now.
