Important: “Free” here means included with a U.S. Amazon Prime membership at no extra charge. It does not mean these films can be watched without Prime. This is a historical snapshot of the titles Amazon added or listed for Prime playback during August 2025; Prime Video’s catalog changes by date, country, and account.
For documentary fans, the strongest choices are the films grounded in real people, history, crime, politics, sport, or social change. That makes Creed, Raging Bull, Miami Vice, and Cape Fear especially useful companion viewing: they are fictional films, but each draws on recognizable worlds and human behavior that documentaries often explore directly.
Best movies included with Prime in August 2025
The following films were reported as arriving on, or being available through, the U.S. Prime Video service during August 2025. Check the individual listing before watching, because an Amazon page can change from Prime playback to rental, purchase, or an add-on channel.

Creed (2015)
Ryan Coogler’s boxing drama gives the Rocky formula a new center: Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed, seeks training from Rocky Balboa. Michael B. Jordan plays Adonis with a mixture of physical confidence and unresolved grief, while Sylvester Stallone brings history and weariness to Rocky.

At 133 minutes, it is a substantial sports film rather than a quick action watch. Its 95% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score reflects the balance between convincing fight choreography, family legacy, and character drama. Amazon’s official August list placed it on Prime on August 16.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Quentin Tarantino’s 154-minute crime film rearranges chronology and lets several stories collide: Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield’s routine, Mia Wallace’s night out, Butch Coolidge’s escape, and Marsellus Wallace’s criminal empire. The fragmented structure rewards close attention to cause and effect, making it a good choice for viewers who enjoy films that ask how stories are assembled.
It is violent, darkly comic, and deliberately talkative. Its 92% critics’ score is less about conventional realism than about the film’s control of tone, dialogue, and structure. It was listed for August 1.
Raging Bull (1980)
Martin Scorsese’s black-and-white biography of middleweight boxer Jake LaMotta is one of the most demanding films on this list. Robert De Niro’s performance tracks LaMotta’s movement from fighter to jealous, self-destructive public figure, with the boxing ring becoming only one arena for his violence.

Documentary viewers may appreciate its interest in the gap between public persona and private conduct, although this is an interpretation of LaMotta’s life, not a documentary record. Amazon listed it for August 1.
Blow Out (1981)
Brian De Palma’s neo-noir thriller follows a sound technician, played by John Travolta, who records what appears to be evidence that a supposed tire accident was actually an assassination. The central investigation is unusually dependent on listening: a piece of audio becomes a possible historical record, but its meaning is uncertain and its chain of custody is fragile.
That premise gives the film a natural connection to documentary and investigative storytelling. It is also a tightly constructed thriller about editing, evidence, and the ways images and sound can be manipulated. It arrived on Prime Video on August 1.

The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Dan O’Bannon’s 91-minute horror comedy combines zombies, punk fashion, practical gore, and an irreverent view of genre conventions. It is much lighter and stranger than a conventional undead thriller, but its satire does not eliminate the film’s appetite for mayhem.

This is the pick for a short, energetic late-night watch. Its 91% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score makes it one of the more acclaimed films in the lineup, and Amazon listed it for August 1.
A Fistful of Dynamite (also known as Duck, You Sucker!)
Sergio Leone’s epic western follows an explosives expert and a Mexican outlaw during the Mexican Revolution. Amazon’s listing used the combined title Duck, You Sucker! A Fistful of Dynamite, so searching only one version may produce inconsistent results.
The film’s 154-minute length allows Leone to move beyond gunfights into revolution, betrayal, class, and political conviction. It is listed as a 1971/1972 production in different references and was scheduled for Prime on August 1.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Wes Ball’s sequel takes place generations after Caesar’s era. Noa, a young ape played by Owen Teague, is pulled into a conflict between competing ape societies while the remnants of human civilization remain part of the political and cultural landscape.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Rather than continuing a single hero’s story directly, the film examines how movements become myths and how later generations reinterpret inherited history. That makes it a worthwhile science-fiction choice for viewers interested in the way societies preserve, distort, or weaponize the past. Amazon listed it for August 2.
The Intern (2015)
Nancy Meyers’ workplace comedy casts Robert De Niro as Ben Whittaker, a widower who becomes a senior intern at an online fashion company. Anne Hathaway plays Jules Ostin, the company’s founder, whose professional success has not simplified her personal life.

The film is a gentler option than the crime and horror titles above. Its appeal comes from the contrast between Ben’s experience and Jules’s fast-moving startup culture, along with the odd but effective friendship at the center. It was scheduled for August 22.
Miami Vice (2006)
Michael Mann’s feature adaptation of the television series follows undercover detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, played by Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, as they investigate a major drug operation. Mann emphasizes atmosphere, surveillance, night photography, and operational detail over the lighter tone associated with many television adaptations.
The result is a cool, abrasive crime film that will appeal to viewers interested in policing, organized crime, and the blurred line between investigator and infiltrator. It was listed for August 1.
Cape Fear (1991)
Martin Scorsese’s remake stars Robert De Niro as Max Cady, a convicted sex offender who seeks revenge against the lawyer he blames for his imprisonment. Nick Nolte plays the lawyer, whose attempts to protect his family become increasingly compromised by his own past decisions.
This is the darkest recommendation here. It contains sexual violence, threats, and sustained psychological intimidation, so it is not a casual family thriller. For viewers who can handle its subject matter, the film offers a disturbing study of guilt, punishment, and the way personal histories return as public crises. Amazon listed it for August 1.

Prime Video’s movie pages do not all represent the same type of access. A title may appear in a search result even when it is available only to rent, buy, or watch through an additional subscription.
- Open Prime Video and choose Prime in the navigation bar. This is Amazon’s destination for movies, shows, sports, and broadcasts included with a Prime membership.
- Alternatively, open Amazon’s Included with Prime collection.
- Search for the film and inspect the playback label on its individual page.
- Proceed only when the page says Included with Prime or presents Prime playback. Do not assume access from a listing marked Available to rent or buy or one that requires an add-on channel.
The general Movies page is not sufficient for compiling a free-with-Prime list because it mixes all of these options together.

What changed about this August 2025 list?
Availability is not permanent. Amazon adds and removes licensed titles, and the same film may be included in one country while requiring payment in another. The dates above describe the U.S. service and should not be presented as a current worldwide catalog.
There was also conflicting reporting around some August titles. Amazon’s official monthly list placed Creed on August 16, so that is the date used here. Some third-party lists mentioned Conclave for August 9, but Amazon’s official August 2025 list did not include it. It is therefore excluded from this selection.
These films are also not documentaries. They are narrative features, even when they draw on real people, political history, professional sports, or recognizable social institutions. For actual documentary viewing, use Prime Video’s documentary category and apply the same Included with Prime check to every title.
FAQ
Are these movies free without Amazon Prime?
No. In this article, “free” means included with a U.S. Prime membership at no additional charge. A Prime subscription is still required.
Are all movies on Prime Video included with Prime?
No. Prime Video also displays movies available to rent or buy and titles requiring an add-on subscription. Look for the “Included with Prime” or Prime playback label.
Will these films still be included with Prime?
Not necessarily. This is an August 2025 U.S. snapshot. Amazon’s licensed catalog changes over time, so verify each title on Prime Video before watching.
Why is Conclave not on this August 2025 list?
Some third-party reporting listed Conclave for August 9, but Amazon’s official August 2025 monthly list did not include it. It is omitted rather than presented as a confirmed Prime addition.
The Bottom Line
The best starting points are Creed for sports drama, Raging Bull for a darker real-life character study, Blow Out for an investigation built around sound and evidence, and Pulp Fiction for formally inventive crime cinema. For horror, choose The Return of the Living Dead; for science fiction, choose Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Because the list records August 2025 U.S. availability, confirm the Included with Prime label before pressing play.
