The Batman: Part II is currently scheduled to open in theaters on February 18, 2028. Filming began in London on June 12, 2026, but production was temporarily paused by October 5 while director Matt Reeves focused on a family matter. The pause’s effect on the release schedule has not been established, so the February 2028 date is scheduled, not guaranteed.
When does The Batman: Part II come out?
The current reported theatrical release date is February 18, 2028. TheWrap reported the date on July 15, 2026, and reiterated it in its October coverage of the production pause. No later release date had been announced in that reporting. TheWrap’s October 5 report describes the date as still scheduled while noting that it was too early to know whether the pause would affect the timetable.

How has the release date changed?
The film’s reported theatrical schedule has moved several times. The initial October 3, 2025 date was part of the studio’s announced slate; subsequent dates were reported as the schedule changed.
| Reported date | Schedule context |
|---|---|
| October 3, 2025 | Initial announced date, as reported by TheWrap in 2026. |
| October 2, 2026 | Subsequent date reported by TheWrap in 2026. |
| October 1, 2027 | Subsequent date reported by TheWrap in 2026. |
| February 18, 2028 | Current reported date, announced July 15, 2026 and reiterated in October 2026. |
The schedule history should not be confused with the October 2026 pause: reporting confirmed the pause, but did not confirm that it caused another release-date change.

When did filming start, and is production still underway?
Filming began in London in June
Production began in London on June 12, 2026. Director Matt Reeves marked the start with a post reading, “#FirstShot #TheBatmanPart2 CC: @E_Messerschmidt Here We Go…” TheWrap reported that filming had begun in London. Read TheWrap’s report on the filming start.
Production was temporarily paused in October
By October 5, the cast and crew had recently been filming in London, but production was temporarily paused. TheWrap quoted a statement from Warner Bros. and DC Studios: “Production on ‘The Batman: Part II’ has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.” The statement called the pause temporary; the reviewed reporting did not give a restart date.

Why was The Batman: Part II delayed?
James Gunn, DC Studios co-chief, previously attributed an earlier delay to the script not being complete. TheWrap quoted him saying, “The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script,” and reporting that Reeves was committed to making the best film he could, while the time needed to write a script could not be accurately predicted. That explanation applies to the earlier script-related delay; it does not establish the reason for every later schedule change or explain the October 2026 production pause.
For the latest pause, the studios’ quoted statement identified Reeves’s family matter as the reason. TheWrap reported that the schedule effect was not yet known. TheWrap’s October 2026 coverage contains the statement and the release-date context.
Who is in the cast?
TheWrap reported that Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Jayme Lawson and Gil Perez-Abraham are returning. The reported new cast includes Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Casting reports alone do not confirm character roles or plot details; story information remains scarce in the coverage cited here. For the July date announcement and cast context, see TheWrap’s July 15 report.
