The Astronaut is a 2025 science-fiction horror thriller about astronaut Sam Walker, who returns to Earth after a crash landing and begins to suspect that something came back with her. Written and directed by Jess Varley, the film stars Kate Mara and builds its tension around Sam’s quarantine and the uncertainty of what she experienced in space.
What is The Astronaut about?
After a damaged capsule crash-lands on Earth, astronaut Sam Walker is placed under quarantine for monitoring, rehabilitation and testing. As unsettling events occur, she becomes convinced that an extraterrestrial presence may have followed her home. The story’s central tension is whether Sam is encountering a real threat or interpreting events through the fear and strain of her return.
This is a fictional, contained paranoia story—not a factual account of NASA quarantine or astronaut rehabilitation procedures.
