The historic community ballpark stood inside John Galvin Park at 1076 N. Grove Ave. The movie was filmed at multiple locations; Ontario was one of them.
What happened to the ballpark?
The fire began at about 11:30 p.m. on August 22, 2024. Firefighters found heavy flames at the stadium and dugout. Ontario Fire Department Deputy Chief Michael Wedell described the stadium as a complete loss. Initial reports said no one was injured, and officials had not determined the cause. Arson was mentioned as a possible line of investigation, but officials had no indication that it was the cause; it should not be treated as a finding. ABC7 reported on the fire and the department’s assessment.

The fire destroyed the stadium structures; it did not erase the site’s earlier history or its connection to the film. The City of Ontario identifies the location as Jay Littleton Ball Park in John Galvin Park, at 1076 N. Grove Ave. The city’s park listing gives the municipal location.
Why is Jay Littleton Ball Park remembered?
A community baseball venue with a long history
Ontario Heritage dates the ballpark’s original construction to 1927 and its major wooden-grandstand work to 1935–37. The field served youth and amateur baseball for decades, and the Ontario Orioles played there for one season in 1947. Ontario designated the park a historic landmark in 2003. Ontario Heritage’s history of Jay Littleton Ball Park documents these details.

A filming location, not the whole movie
The park was used for scenes in A League of Their Own (1992), the fictionalized story connected to the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. It was one of several filming locations, not the sole setting or location for the entire movie. Ontario Heritage also records its use in Eight Men Out (1988), The Babe (1992), a 1999 episode of The X-Files, and a 2020 Amazon Studios remake shoot. The historic field’s period appearance made it useful to productions depicting earlier eras.
What could happen to the site?
As of the latest civic records covered here, Ontario had not confirmed a long-term plan for the site. March 2026 coverage described debate over rebuilding the baseball venue or pursuing other concepts, including soccer, a water-play area, a multipurpose facility, or a community center. The discussion involved competing questions: what local residents and young athletes need, how much of the historic identity should remain, whether the facilities would be used regularly, and whether the project could be funded and operated safely. These are considerations reported in the debate, not a settled ranking of the proposals.

Ontario City Manager Scott Ochoa put a possible rebuild cost at roughly $100 million, as reported by KVCR in March 2026; CBS Los Angeles separately described restoration as costing at least $100 million in its February 11, 2026 report. These are reported estimates, not a final project budget or appropriation. After residents objected to a proposed direction, the council delayed a decision scheduled for March 17. Ochoa said the matter would remain tabled unless reintroduced. KVCR covered the proposals and public disagreement; CBS Los Angeles reported on the restoration estimate.
A June 2, 2026 city council agenda listed a proposed action authorizing the city manager to execute agreements and contracts to open the ballpark for minimum baseball services. An agenda establishes that the action was listed, not whether it passed or was implemented. The available record therefore does not establish that the park has been fully rebuilt, is permanently closed, or is currently operating. Ontario’s council agenda records provide the city documents.
