That does not make him the automatic winner of a one-on-one fight. This is an editorial ranking, not an official Marvel hierarchy, and the order changes if you judge only physical strength, combat ability, or implied cosmic scale.
The ranking includes characters and multiverse variants with released MCU screen evidence through October 8, 2026, and counts their strongest demonstrated states—including temporary boosts and artifacts, identified where they matter. It excludes comics-only feats and entities with no meaningful action on screen. Cosmic beings may rank highly on scale even when their combat ability has not been tested.
How to read this ranking
“Power” here combines five things: the scale of a character’s demonstrated effects, versatility, durability, combat ability, and how reliably they can access their abilities. A powerful weapon or special transformation counts as part of a character’s peak, but the condition is named; it is not treated as a natural or always-available ability. The result is a considered ordering, not a claim that every character could be put through the same objective test.
Different editorial lists reach different conclusions. NerdSnack’s 2026 ranking and Sideshow’s September 2024 ranking differ in their selections and order; neither establishes a Marvel-approved list. Kevin Feige said in 2019, before later MCU appearances, that Captain Marvel “will be the most powerful character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” That is a dated statement, not a current official ranking. TIME’s 2019 Marvel-wide reader poll had Captain Marvel beat Thor in 64.7% of 1,633 face-offs; it measured reader choices across Marvel characters, not MCU screen feats.

The 30 most powerful MCU characters
1. Loki
At the end of Loki Season 2, Loki takes his place at the center of the timelines, holding their branches together. It is the clearest demonstrated effect on the continuing structure of multiple realities in this ranking, though it is not a combat feat and does not show what he could do in a fight.
2. Eternity
In Thor: Love and Thunder, Eternity grants Gorr’s wish after Gorr reaches its realm. The ability to grant a wish on that cosmic scale merits a high placement, but Eternity is not shown fighting, so this is a ranking by demonstrated cosmic function, not proven combat superiority.
3. Arishem
In Eternals, Arishem arrives to take the Eternals and reserve judgment on Earth. His immense scale and authority over the Celestials make him one of the largest threats in the MCU; the film offers little direct evidence about how he would fare in a fight.
4. Dormammu
In Doctor Strange, Dormammu dominates his own dimension and is powerful enough that Strange cannot defeat him by ordinary force. Strange instead traps him in a time loop and bargains for Earth’s safety. Dormammu’s realm and threat are enormous, but the scene demonstrates a way to resist him rather than a conventional fight’s outcome.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda defeats the Illuminati and, using the Darkhold, destroys the Darkhold across the multiverse. That combination of magic, projection and reality-altering reach puts her near the top; the Darkhold is a major condition on the peak shown.
6. Thanos with the Infinity Stones
In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos gathers the Infinity Stones and uses them to erase half of all life. That is one of the MCU’s most consequential feats, but it is an artifact-powered state: it should not be confused with Thanos’s unboosted strength or treated as a fair measure of what he could do against every other character.
7. Surtur with the Eternal Flame
In Thor: Ragnarok, Surtur, empowered by the Eternal Flame, destroys Asgard. The scale of that act puts him above most individual combatants, but it depends on a specific, temporary power-up rather than a routine demonstration of his ordinary state.
8. Captain Marvel
In Avengers: Endgame, Carol Danvers flies through Thanos’s warship and withstands his attacks until he uses the Power Stone against her. Her energy projection, flight, durability and ability to operate in space make her one of the MCU’s strongest direct combatants, even though the Stone changes the terms of that encounter.

- MARVEL STUDIOS' SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY: Hulk figure is inspired by the character's appearance in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Brand New Day -- a great gift for collectors and fans ages 4 and up

9. Thor
In Avengers: Infinity War, Thor survives the heat and force of the Nidavellir forge long enough to help create Stormbreaker, then uses it to wound Thanos after the snap. His place reflects both extraordinary resilience and the impact of an enchanted weapon; it does not mean every one of his appearances shows him at that peak.
10. Doctor Strange
In Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange holds Dormammu in a repeating time loop long enough to negotiate Earth’s release. Across his MCU appearances, magic gives him a broad toolkit for defense, movement and containment. His ranking below the top tier reflects the gap between that versatility and the greater scale of their demonstrated effects.
11. Cassandra Nova
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Cassandra Nova uses telekinesis and control over matter to kill or incapacitate opponents with little effort, including inside the Void. Her abilities make her exceptionally dangerous at close range, while the story does not establish her power as a multiversal-scale force.
12. G’iah
In Secret Invasion, G’iah becomes a Super-Skrull with abilities copied from several enhanced beings and defeats Gravik in their final fight. The breadth of that borrowed power raises her ceiling sharply, but the series shows only a limited number of uses and does not establish equal mastery of every ability.

13. Ego
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Ego’s expanding “Ego” organism threatens to spread across worlds, and he battles the Guardians on his planet. That planet-spanning threat earns a high position, but the film also exposes his dependence on a vulnerable core and his own planet.
14. Hela
In Thor: Ragnarok, Hela catches and crushes Mjolnir with her bare hands, then overpowers Thor and Valkyrie in battle. Her strength and ability to generate weapons make her a formidable combatant; she is ultimately stopped when Surtur destroys Asgard.
15. Ikaris
In Eternals, Ikaris flies at high speed, projects heat vision and overpowers other Eternals. His flight and ranged attacks give him more options than a purely physical fighter, though he remains vulnerable to coordinated resistance from other Eternals.
16. Hulk
In Thor: Ragnarok, Hulk fights Thor in the arena and proves strong enough to send him flying. He combines enormous physical force with resilience, but his most famous feats are close-range; his placement reflects the limits of that demonstrated reach compared with characters who can reshape a battlefield or affect cosmic events.

17. Monica Rambeau
In The Marvels, Monica absorbs and redirects energy and phases through matter while helping contain the breach between universes. Those abilities provide unusual defensive and energy-manipulating options, but her full upper limit is not established by the film.
18. Vision
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Vision uses the Mind Stone’s beam against Ultron and combines flight, density control and superhuman strength. That versatility makes him difficult to counter, although later films show him injured or operating under constraints rather than at an uninterrupted peak.
19. Namor
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Namor fights Shuri’s forces and survives a battle that exploits his need for water to weaken him. He is exceptionally strong, fast and dangerous in the air or water; his performance is less reliable when deprived of the environment that sustains him.
20. Sersi
In Eternals, Sersi transmutes matter, including transforming the Deviant Kro into a tree. Her power can change the nature of a fight without relying on brute force, but the film shows that using it on a powerful opponent is difficult and requires concentration.
21. Iron Man
In Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark uses his armor and the nano-gauntlet to take the Infinity Stones from Thanos and snap away Thanos’s forces. The snap is a feat of using the Stones, not a natural Iron Man power; his own suit-based flight, weapons and adaptability still make him one of the strongest human-scale fighters.
22. Shang-Chi with the Ten Rings
In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Shang-Chi uses the Ten Rings to fight Wenwu and help defeat the Dweller-in-Darkness. The rings give him powerful ranged attacks and defense, while his martial-arts skill helps him use them effectively. His placement reflects the weapon’s demonstrated power as well as his own ability.
23. Spider-Man
In Avengers: Infinity War, Peter Parker helps hold back Cull Obsidian and uses his Spider-Sense to react to danger before it reaches him. His strength, agility and reflexes let him compete with much larger opponents, but he lacks the scale of the cosmic and energy-wielding characters above him.
24. Ant-Man
In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Scott Lang grows giant-sized and joins Hope in fighting Kang in the Quantum Realm. His suit’s size-changing ability can radically alter a confrontation, but it depends on technology and comes with practical limits.

25. Wasp
In Ant-Man and the Wasp, Hope van Dyne uses her suit’s shrinking, flight and energy blasts to fight the Ghost and help rescue Janet from the Quantum Realm. The combination makes her a more versatile fighter than her size alone suggests, though her demonstrated effects remain primarily personal and tactical in scale.
26. She-Hulk
In She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Jennifer Walters demonstrates Hulk-like strength and durability while retaining her ability to think and speak as herself. Her control and physical power make her formidable, but the series does not show her matching Hulk’s largest combat feats.
27. Black Panther
In Black Panther, T’Challa fights Killmonger using the enhanced strength and agility associated with the heart-shaped herb, along with a vibranium suit that absorbs and releases kinetic energy. Those advantages make him a highly capable close-range fighter, but his power depends in part on suit and herb.
28. Deadpool
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson survives repeated injuries and keeps fighting, demonstrating a healing factor that makes him unusually hard to kill. His regeneration is a substantial advantage in a battle of attrition, but it does not by itself give him the reach or force of higher-ranked characters.

In The Incredible Hulk, Emil Blonsky transforms into the Abomination and fights Hulk with strength and durability on a comparable physical scale. That makes him a serious threat in a direct brawl, but his screen evidence is narrower than that of the characters above him.
30. Captain America
Steve Rogers’s defining physical feat comes in Avengers: Endgame, when he lifts Mjolnir and uses it against Thanos. The hammer gives him Thor’s power in that moment, so the feat is not evidence of his ordinary strength; outside that temporary boost, his super-soldier abilities and combat skill keep him below the more powerful characters on this list.

The Living Tribunal appears as a statue in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, not as an active combatant whose abilities can be assessed. The One Above All has no direct MCU film depiction in the evidence considered here. Ranking either above characters who act on screen would turn implied or absent presence into proven power, so neither is included. The countdown also does not claim that its lower placements are an official or universally settled order.
