Prime Video mixes films included with a Prime membership with rentals, purchases and add-on-channel programming, so check the access label on each film’s title page before pressing play.
The list balances sharp satire, mockumentary-style comedy, irreverent classics and lighter crowd-pleasers. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping gets a special warning: it was expected to leave Prime Video at the end of April.
How to read this list
Amazon’s catalog changes by country, date and subscription. A film appearing in Prime Video search results does not necessarily mean it is free for Prime members. Look for the words Included with Prime, or for a rental, purchase or channel-subscription prompt. Prime Video commonly marks paid titles with a yellow shopping-bag icon.
The April arrivals below were reported as becoming available on April 1 unless noted otherwise. Access status should be checked on publication day because licensing can change without warning.

The 18 best comedies on Amazon Prime Video
-
The Naked Gun (2025)
Liam Neeson takes over the role of Frank Drebin Jr., a Police Squad officer investigating a suspicious death that opens into a wider conspiracy. The premise sounds like a conventional police thriller until the film starts dismantling every serious procedural beat with visual gags, bad timing and deliberately literal wordplay.
It is the strongest first choice for viewers who want a new release with the spirit of the original Naked Gun films. The film was reported as streaming on Prime Video in April 2026; verify whether it is included or separately priced in your account.
-
Deep Cover (2025)
An improv teacher and two students are pulled into an undercover operation in London’s criminal underworld. Their acting exercises become survival skills, with Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, Nick Mohammed and Sean Bean driving an action comedy built around people pretending to be much more competent—and much more dangerous—than they really are.
This is the pick for anyone who wants jokes without giving up chases, gangsters and escalating danger. Check the Prime Video title page for the current access tier.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016)
The Lonely Island’s mockumentary follows Conner4Real, a pop star whose second album collapses despite an entourage, expensive videos and absolute confidence in his own genius. The music-industry targets are broad, but the film’s fake songs and self-important interviews give it the rhythm of a particularly chaotic documentary.
Availability warning: it was available during April 2026 but was reported as leaving Prime Video at the end of the month. If it has disappeared, check other rental services rather than assuming the title page is still part of Prime’s included catalog.
-
Tropic Thunder (2008)
Ben Stiller’s Hollywood satire strands a group of pampered actors in a dangerous jungle while they are making a Vietnam War film. The performers believe they are still shooting a movie; everyone around them has more urgent concerns.
Its best jokes come from the collision between inflated celebrity egos and actual physical danger. Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black and Stiller lead an ensemble that sends up method acting, studio notes, awards campaigns and the machinery of blockbuster filmmaking.

-
A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
This tightly constructed heist comedy brings together a con artist, her bank-robber boyfriend, a barrister and a stolen fortune. Plans repeatedly fail because every character wants something different, and because Kevin Kline’s Otto is catastrophically confident about his intelligence.
Kline won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the role. The film is older than most of the April additions, but its farce still works because the plot keeps moving even when the characters behave terribly.
-
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
King Arthur’s quest for the Holy Grail becomes an excuse to ridicule heroic legend, medieval authority and the conventions of expensive historical epics. The film’s low-budget limitations are part of its comic vocabulary: absurd cutaways, improvised-looking props and scenes that end before logic has a chance to intervene.
Choose this for rapid-fire surrealism rather than a conventional adventure story. It rewards viewers who enjoy quotable dialogue and jokes that refuse to explain themselves.

Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979)
Brian is mistaken for a messiah while trying to live an ordinary life in Roman-occupied Judea. The satire takes aim at religious fanaticism, political movements, crowds and the human tendency to follow confident speakers without checking where they are going.
Its target is organized behavior and false certainty, not a simple attack on one individual belief. As with Holy Grail, confirm whether Prime includes it in your region or presents it as a paid title.
-
American Fiction (2023)
Jeffrey Wright plays Thelonious “Monk” Ellison, a frustrated novelist who writes a deliberately exaggerated book under a pseudonym. The joke turns against him when the satirical manuscript becomes more commercially successful than his serious work.
This is a more restrained comedy than the films above, using the publishing industry and racial stereotypes as the machinery for its satire. It also has a family drama running beneath the professional farce, making it a strong choice when you want comedy with consequences.

-
Being John Malkovich (1999)
A puppeteer discovers a portal into actor John Malkovich’s mind and begins selling short visits to other people. Charlie Kaufman’s screenplay turns an impossible premise into a comedy about celebrity, desire, identity and the wish to escape one’s own life.
John Cusack, Cameron Diaz and Catherine Keener play people whose ambitions become increasingly tangled. Malkovich’s willingness to send up his own public image gives the film its most distinctive layer of self-aware humor.
-
Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
This ensemble teen comedy follows California high-school students dealing with relationships, sex, school pressure and part-time work. Its stories range from comic awkwardness to genuine uncertainty, giving the film more texture than a simple collection of adolescent punchlines.
It is best approached as a period snapshot rather than a guide to modern teenage life. The April 2026 Prime Video listing identified it as an April 1 addition.

Spaceballs (1987)
Mel Brooks turns space opera into a target range, with Star Wars conventions receiving the most obvious hits. The film also parodies merchandising, sequels, villains, heroic rescues and the idea that a major production must take itself seriously.
Its comedy is broad and deliberately silly, making it an easy group-watch when viewers want recognizable science-fiction references rather than intricate plotting.
-
It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)
After learning about buried money, a group of strangers races to find the fortune. The pursuit grows into an enormous ensemble farce in which greed overrides cooperation and every temporary alliance is likely to collapse.
The film’s scale is part of the appeal: multiple comic personalities, increasingly reckless schemes and a road journey that keeps expanding. It is a useful choice for viewers interested in the grand, pre-streaming era of all-star comedy.

The Little Hours (2017)
Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie and Kate Micucci play unruly medieval nuns in an irreverent comedy loosely inspired by The Decameron. A servant hiding in the convent provides the setup, while the nuns’ hostility and impulsiveness supply much of the disorder.
The film combines period costumes and medieval settings with blunt, modern comic behavior. That contrast is the point—and also a useful warning for viewers who prefer gentler historical comedy.
-
The Machine (2023)
Bert Kreischer plays a fictionalized version of himself whose infamous past criminal entanglement returns to disrupt his present life. What might have remained a stand-up story becomes a feature-length collision between family obligations, old enemies and a persona that has grown larger than the man.
It is a good fit for viewers who like comedian-led films and action-comedy premises. Expect a rougher, more adult tone than in a conventional family road movie.

Anna and the Apocalypse (2017)
A Scottish teenager and her friends fight through a zombie outbreak during the Christmas season, stopping periodically for musical numbers. The combination sounds unstable, but the film uses songs, horror and teen comedy to create a surprisingly coherent genre blend.
Choose it for a holiday watch with more blood and choreography than seasonal comfort viewing normally provides. The April 2026 listing identified it as a Prime Video addition on April 1.
-
Dog (2022)
Channing Tatum plays an Army Ranger tasked with transporting a military working dog to a funeral. The road-trip structure puts an initially unwilling man and an equally difficult dog together, allowing their relationship to develop through mishaps rather than sentimental speeches.
The film mixes broad animal comedy with a more serious story about military service, grief and adjustment. It is the most accessible choice on this list for viewers wanting a warmer, relatively conventional comedy-drama.

-
Hot Pursuit (2015)
Reese Witherspoon plays a police officer responsible for protecting a witness played by Sofia Vergara. Their escape becomes a mismatched-partners comedy, with the two women forced to cooperate while criminals and law enforcement close in.
The appeal is the contrast between Witherspoon’s tightly controlled officer and Vergara’s more flamboyant witness. It is a straightforward pick for a quick chase comedy rather than a satire with multiple layers.
-
Holmes & Watson (2018)
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly play exaggerated versions of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The familiar detective setup is treated as a playground for physical comedy, anachronisms and deliberately foolish interpretations of Victorian mystery conventions.
Critical reception was poor, so this belongs on the list as a low-expectation, broad-comedy option—not as a hidden classic. It may work for viewers specifically looking for the Ferrell–Reilly pairing.

One April release to approach cautiously: Balls Up
Balls Up, starring Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser and directed by Peter Farrelly, arrived on Prime Video on April 15, 2026. It is relevant to anyone looking for the month’s newest comedy, but it should not be confused with the best-reviewed title on the service: contemporary coverage reported a 28% critics’ score and a 26% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time.
In other words, add it as a new-release curiosity, not as a recommendation above the stronger films in this ranking.
How to check Prime Video availability
- Open Prime Video in the U.S. and search for the exact film title.
- Open the film’s detail page rather than relying on a search-result thumbnail.
- Look for Included with Prime, a rental or purchase price, or a channel-subscription prompt.
- Check the profile and device you actually plan to use; availability can differ from another household account or country.
- If the title is paid, review the rental window before confirming. Prime Video rentals generally give you 30 days to start watching and at least 48 hours to finish once playback begins.
FAQ
Are all 18 films included with an Amazon Prime membership?
No. Prime Video combines included titles with rentals, purchases and add-on-channel films. Check each title page for the “Included with Prime” label before watching.
Which film is the best comedy to start with?
Start with The Naked Gun for a new slapstick mystery, Deep Cover for action comedy, or Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping for mockumentary-style satire. The best choice depends on the kind of humor you want.
Recommended Free Tools
Is Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping still on Prime Video?
It was available in April 2026 but was reported as leaving Prime Video at the end of that month. Availability may therefore have changed; search the title directly and check its access label.
Did Balls Up make the list?
It is a notable April 2026 new release that arrived on April 15, but it is presented separately because its reported Rotten Tomatoes scores were weak. It is a new-release option rather than one of the 18 strongest recommendations here.
The Bottom Line
For the broadest range of comedy, begin with The Naked Gun, Deep Cover, American Fiction or Being John Malkovich. Fans of mockumentary and show-business satire should prioritize Popstar and Tropic Thunder, while Holy Grail, Life of Brian and Spaceballs cover classic parody. Treat the list as an April 2026 U.S. snapshot, and verify whether each film is included, rented, purchased or locked behind a channel subscription before starting it.
