Why Terry Moran left ABC News
On June 10, 2025, ABC News said it had reached the end of its agreement with Moran and would not renew it. The network attributed its decision to a recent social-media post, which it called “a clear violation of ABC News policies.” That is ABC’s stated rationale. CBS News reported the network’s statement.

His first move: independent reporting on Substack
The day after ABC’s announcement, Moran said he was joining Substack. He described plans to report, interview people, share his work and hear from readers, according to USA Today’s report via Yahoo News. This was his initial announced step after ABC, not the later launch of RealPatriotism.com.
RealPatriotism.com expands his publishing work
In May 2026, Moran launched RealPatriotism.com as a home for his work. TheWrap reported that the site was hosted on beehiiv and that Moran planned a daily video news program featuring live audience participation. Moran said, “The job of a journalist is to hold power to account, and that’s what I’ve tried to do as a reporter for 30 years.” The “30 years” is Moran’s description of his career. What the site shows now
RealPatriotism.com and its archive pages show publication activity in 2026, including sections called “The Republic” and “The Foreign Desk.” That supports describing the site as active, but does not establish that the planned video program is currently running daily.

The two announcements mark different points in Moran’s independent work: Substack was his first stated destination in June 2025, while RealPatriotism.com was a later expansion in May 2026.
